Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 27, 2009 10:27 am I really would like a pool at some stage and I have the advantage of starting with a vacant block. Those of you with some expertise should I dig it out first and leave it for a while or just prepare the house's reinforcements to do it later. The pool will be 400 off the back wall running along side the alfresco, 7x4 no spa. How much is it do dig and concrete a 7x4? Re: Dig pool now or later? 2Feb 27, 2009 10:32 am I'd do it first, if you can ! We would have loved to have had ours dug first, but PD will absolutely NOT build around an open pool hole - under no circumstances. We offered to cover it, and build a fence around it, but they said NO. I know Metric0n will, as I know 2 people who've recently done it that way.
It just saves you having to have diggers back in post hand over, mking more mess. We can't do any landscaping, inc driveway, until ours is dug ( hopefully in ten days...... ) You may have Council regs regarding that, as well, depending on where you are. Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Dig pool now or later? 3Feb 27, 2009 2:20 pm this will partly depend on how much access there is to back yard after house is built - no problem if you have back lanes or thru access but sometimes it is not possible to do it afterwards.
My parents built a split level home in 2000, steep narrow block, there is now 1m path either side of house and no access thru garage - they had to have hole dug first. Re: Dig pool now or later? 4Feb 28, 2009 3:07 pm well we just signed up today. we were told it was cheaper now than later whilst there is no houses, fences and hardscape done. We also built with PD like Petal and we were told that if our pool went in first they would not build our house
We have good access though so it hasn't been a problem for us. Good luck. Happy at Home Re: Dig pool now or later? 6Feb 28, 2009 3:38 pm Of cause.. we cant let them do it till Masterton is done with the land. but the submission for council and all can be done now so that once hand over is done we can get on with it. I think, since some builders won't even go on site if there is a hole, I'll leave it till later and take out the pool permit with the house. Thanks everyone and Happy building.
p.s Go the Victory! Re: Dig pool now or later? 9Apr 18, 2009 1:28 am Out of interest, how much space is required to do after house is built? Re: Dig pool now or later? 10Apr 18, 2009 8:36 am I have a friend who checked all this out last year. It's easier to put the pool in first and because it is...it's cheaper. Once a house is on site it will cost approx an additional $5000 to use a conveyor belt system beside the house to get the dirt out. Sounds messy too Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Dig pool now or later? 11Jan 29, 2024 9:06 pm So this topic was created a loooong time ago! (Back when I first met my husband and our son is now 10! Haha) but it is very relevant to me. I know we will have a pool, (and a spa) but between the house and the pool, the house will be priority, however I'm not loving the idea of having to get all that dirt down a 2 metre wide side access after we have just built a new house. I wonder could we dig out the hole and just fence it off and leave it until after the house is built? I will check with council and when we pick a builder, this will be asked, for sure! Wondering if there are any other considerations I don't know of? 9 26037 This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
