Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Mar 01, 2017 1:16 pm I’m looking at the installation of security film (3M or other products) to fixed glass panels that are not covered by security screens at my new house. I view the role of the security film as a deterrent to a potential thief that attempts to break the glass. I understand that if a thief really wants to get inside he will most likely get past it. Based on my research, I understand there are two approaches to installing security film. 1) ‘Daylight’ method: security film is applied as close as possible to the edge of the glass, however there is invariably a slight gap at the edge of the glass which creates a weakness. 2) ‘Anchored’ method: security film is either mechanically attached to the window frame (mechanical method) or anchored to the window frame through a sealant (wet method). The anchored method obviously creates a more secure window, however based on quotes received thus far, costs significantly more than the daylight method (three to four times it seems). The other consideration is that apparently applying the daylight method to tempered glass (which I understand is most residential sliding doors) is ineffective. I would appreciate any comments from people that know about the security film products and the installation methods that can provide advice real world advice on this topic. Re: Security film - anyone used it? 2Mar 06, 2017 1:05 pm I am interested in installing 3M security film too. Did you get any quote? And select the installation method?
