Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 21Sep 25, 2016 5:02 pm Yup it does adds up when you feel finally own a place. water, gas and electricity bills another Extra $150-200 each for service charges. Then home and content insurances another couple of hundred. When you think about it, it is really scary. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 22Sep 25, 2016 7:06 pm It does add up! That's why I want to focus on saving now, so I can manage it better when all the bills hit. Also I want to build up a rainy day fund, because if I lost my job or something like that, there's no one to help me pay the mortgage.. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 23Sep 25, 2016 7:13 pm Dawn, you may need to consider getting a life insurance policy (argh - an additional expense - but might be a necessary evil). I work in the life insurance industry, and I highly recommend insurance to everyone. I have life, income protection, total and permanent disablement and crisis cover, so I'm covered for pretty much every serious injury or illness. My income protection cover has a 3 month waiting period, so I'm determined to have 3-6 months expenses put into savings just in case (plus insurance doesn't cover loss of job). Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 26Sep 27, 2016 8:47 pm Really? I haven't heard anything from my builder, but you never know!! I'm the house with the street light out the front (last street light on that end of the street), I share a driveway with my neighbor to the right. It would be pretty exciting if it was my block Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 27Sep 27, 2016 8:53 pm I read Marie Kondo's book the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up tonight. I finally decided to purchase the book after hearing so much about it on blogs and in the news over the last year or so. I wasn't sure it would have much to offer me as I'm already quite nutty about decluttering and owning less stuff. As I read though the book though I kept thinking of things I need to let go of! So this long weekend I'm going to do some spring cleaning, I'll try to take some pics of the process. I thought this might be a good thing to do prior to the BIG MOVE!! Okay, so the move is 6 months away but I like to prepared Has anybody else read the book? I'm wondering if it will be as life changing as they say. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 29Sep 27, 2016 9:35 pm Nah... I have an entire bookshelf of books yet to start/ finish.. Lol I have started packing and getting rid of stuff slowly since beginning of this year. Am still going filling up spaces with stuff. I am shocked at myself how much I have bought/accumulated stuff over a period of 6 years. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 30Sep 27, 2016 11:38 pm How exciting that everything is starting to fall into place! Can't wait to hear that your site has started! Where are your kitchen pendants from? I really like them! I've been looking everywhere and I can even decide what colour to go Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 31Sep 28, 2016 4:46 am Congratulations on your permits Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 32Sep 28, 2016 7:50 pm Thanks all I'm very excited to be getting closer to starting... maybe if Cap is right my builder is already on site My pendants came from Beacon Lighting, I think they still have them. Lol I have started packing and getting rid of stuff slowly since beginning of this year. Am still going filling up spaces with stuff. I am shocked at myself how much I have bought/accumulated stuff over a period of 6 years. ^^; It is surprising how much stuff we all have. I gave away over 100 book last year, but I still have a few more to go. I can't wait to get started!! Come on Friday The Park opening has been postponed due to bad weather. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 36Oct 01, 2016 8:14 pm I have spent the last two days tidying as per the KonMari method. If you haven't heard of the KonMari method it's based on a book written by Marie Kondo called the Life-changing magic of tidying up. The basic steps of the KonMari method are: 1. Envision the life you want (i.e. more space to enjoy things) 2. Discard everything that doesn't bring you joy 3. Work through things by category (rather than room), clothes, books, papers, general, etc 4. For everything your keeping find it a home So I started with clothes... who knew I owned so many!! I was actually really tempted to skip this step because I had been through my clothing two weeks ago and I didn't think I'd find anything to get rid of... I was wrong. I donated one large garbage bag full of clothes. Yay! It was quite therapeutic. I then went through the other categories... it took forever but it's done. I managed to throw out a large pile of papers and probably gave away another 2-3 garage bags worth of things. I'm glad I went through this process, it means a lot less stuff to drag along to the new house, but it was pretty exhausting! Has anyone else tried this? Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 37Oct 01, 2016 9:30 pm Thanks for your message. Glad I got it right. Congrats! Somehow I cannot send you the reply. Bb is building that huge house at the corner. Will be there if I am not working. Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 38Oct 01, 2016 10:29 pm I got your replies ^^; for some reason the PM thing is messed up, someone else had that problems messaging me a few weeks ago, but I got all your responses. Oooh, there was one double storey going up last time I was out there, sounds like the second one is finally going up... hope it doesn't end up overshadowing my house. I'm probably going to head down there tomorrow to have a look. SO EXCITED!!! Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Guess who has permits!!! 39Oct 02, 2016 2:57 pm So excited & happy!!! There is temporary fencing up on my site and a portaloo! Whoever thought I'd be happy about a loo. Also appears that the site has been scraped. There will be 2.5m between my house and the neighbor's house on the left. On the right side, my neighbor's garage is being framed up and they've built to the boundary; my garage will also be up against that boundary. Thankfully their whole house isn't up against the boundary (which I thought might be the case as they are building on a 8.5 frontage). Eeeee! So so happy to see progress on site, I'm getting a house!!! Also appears my tree has been replaced Re: {dawn} Custom 3bdr /16sq home - Build has started!!! 40Oct 02, 2016 3:12 pm Woohoo!!
