Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 07, 2016 7:44 pm Hi All, I'm after some advice on where I can source some secondary glazing frames that take 10.38mm glass which will be for noise reduction. We have three windows and one sliding door (standard glass sliding door and a fixed panel) at the rear of our house that we'd like to place a secondary glazing on to reduce the noise from over the back fence. From what I've read, the main contributors to the noise reduction level are the air gap between the main and secondary glazing, the thickness of the glass and the overall sealing of the glass/frames. We'll be aiming for at least 100mm air gap and I'll seal the frames as good as I can, but I'm trying to find where I can get frames that will take 10.38 - the glazier can source frames for 6.38mm, but I'd prefer to go as thick as I can to maximize the noise reduction. I did get one quote from a company that specializes in secondary glazing for noise reduction and they were willing to cut the frames to size and then post all the bits (minus glass) so my glazier can install them (sourcing the 10.38 locally to save on freight) but they gave a quote of around $6000 just for the frames, so it sounds like they weren't interested in the job. Ideally, someone located in Canberra, but my quick searches have not been successful, or someone that will cut and ship the frames so my glazier can source the glass locally and construct the frames and install them. Thanks! Re: 10.38mm Secondary glazing frames for noise reduction 2Sep 08, 2016 10:30 am Alspec will sell you aluminium profile and materials. Any glass merchant can source your glass.
