Re: Pivot doors and flyscreen/security screen doors 25Feb 10, 2014 11:29 am Saint Mike We look like we're going ahead - so give me a PM in a month and I can tell you how we went ... Ours won't be as strong as a security door - but is stronger than normal mesh. AND - will be able to keep bugs out. Seems to fit the bill. Works on a pulley/pressure type system. With locks on each one so as they can be held in any position. Will be interesting to see how you get on with this. Whilst not as strong as a security door might not be as big a issue as one might think, because if anyone really wants to get in to your house, they will get in one way or another. It's not like you would be relying on it for securing your house when you go out shopping, but just to keep the bugs out when you are home. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Ah, I didn't realize you already had the slab down. That makes it a bit trickier. With north facing front doors I think shading from the sun is one aspect to consider but another is so that guests can have some cover when they ring the doorbell and are waiting for you to answer the door. Friends of ours have a sou'west facing entrance ( which is where all our wind and rain comes from ) and if you are standing there waiting on them opening the door you get soaked every time its raining. Just something else to consider ( like you don't have enough on your plate already ). Ah, I didn't realize you already had the slab down. That makes it a bit trickier. Actually not yet, although we're hoping to get it done next week. Looking at moving it back would require new engineers drawings, and thinking about it unless I make a significant change, it probably isn't worth getting the engineers drawings changed. Fortunately the rain and storms come from the south west, so all they'd be copping is a bit of sun on their backs. In the middle of summer I believe only their lower legs would be in direct sunlight, unless they stood well away from the door. Somewhere in the distant future I'd like to put a deck out there looking out over the street and the hills in the distance that you can see by the elevation of the house on the block. Re: Pivot doors and flyscreen/security screen doors 28Mar 29, 2016 8:25 pm bpratt Thanks Stewie, looks like there's really only one option for a 1200mm wide door, and that's a pivot door. The cooling breeze is something that I'd really like to have, as it doesn't have any ongoing running costs that an a/c has, and on this block each time I've been there, it does have a nice afternoon breeze coming up the hill to it. As AussieMark has said, using the windows in the other rooms might be all we need to do to have sufficient breeze flowing through the house. I do hope that will work, as it would be a massive shame to hide the door behind a screen door. Hi, sorry to bother you but just wondering how you went with this. Just found out today we will have the same issue with our front door. I always have my front door open for cross ventilation so need a screen. Any help would be appreciated ... Mind you feeling a little nervous about our choice in door now eeeek Re: Pivot doors and flyscreen/security screen doors 29Apr 11, 2016 8:26 am flossy17 Hi, sorry to bother you but just wondering how you went with this. Mind you feeling a little nervous about our choice in door now eeeek Still haven't got one for that door yet, but will eventually get one. I've seen one that you pull across in front of the pivot door that works like a blind, albeit pulled sideways across the door. It wasn't cheap though, from memory it was around $700. I saw them at the Brisbane Home Show over a year ago and lost their details since then. Don't be nervous about getting a pivot door, they are great. I see you're just down the road from us too. A hinged 1200mm door can have a standard 1200mm security door, a pivot door can not, hence the need to do something different. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
