Re: Gas connections longer then 45 metres (on acreage) 7Apr 29, 2015 2:18 pm for our rural property we just did bottled gas as it was for cooking and hot water. It's a weekender but we only go through 1 'big' bottle in 2 years!! And then you don't need to pay service fees (which is the killer in all utilities). Even for our current build I considered going bottle gas for the cost/utility reason. Re: Gas connections longer then 45 metres (on acreage) 8Apr 29, 2015 5:23 pm Gas will be for cooking and heating (ducted) so I assume it will heat water too. We are considering getting solar too, depends on what the costs end up been. Re: Gas connections longer then 45 metres (on acreage) 9Apr 29, 2015 5:30 pm Gas for heating the house means the only sensible option is to hook up to mains gas then. You'd be ordering a new bottle every few days, and it would be expensive that way. I'm guessing you're set with the idea of gas heating, but have you considered alternatives like reverse cycle split system air conditioning ? I had heard somewhere that gas is likely to increase at a faster rate than electricity, so it maybe worthwhile doing some further research as to your needs down the track.
