Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 19, 2016 6:26 pm Hi, Just got the quotation from my landscape designer. We are doing the garden throughout the house, include decking, exposed aggregate driveway and plants/trees https://scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13241371_10209033807980329_7043889609135575784_n.jpg?oh=c72cc110ac0719d9364997c7edf79ed7&oe=57D25A0B This is rate for each item. Is this reasonable? higher or lower compare to the standard rate. Im new to this landscape design stuff so I need some advice on that. Thanks Regards. Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 3May 20, 2016 8:59 am There are some items on this quote that are way off! Excavation should cost around $12-15 per m2. Exposed agg - $110-130m2. Underpave slab $45-60m2. Gravel $30m2 max. Decking should cost $250-300m2 for merbau/spotted gum. Organic soil supply and install at 150mm depth is around $12-15m2. Mulch $10-12m2 (pine bark). Plants and trees seem way off also... FYI i do this for a living. Hope this helps. Cheers. Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 4May 20, 2016 11:49 am Hi I think the quote looks very reasonable. You can also consider taking into account your location and access to your land. Some 'areas' can be more pricier than others. I would also look at getting some discount considering it looks like you're about to spend a bomb! Good Luck! Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 5May 20, 2016 6:23 pm Thanks guys, I have not negotiated the price, is it reasonable to ask them to do 10% off? Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 6May 20, 2016 6:53 pm Often when quoting for such a nice big house, you get over the top pricing, i would want 20 grand knocked off total or get another price stating exactly the same and say you got maximum of 20 thousand less ti spend. Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 7May 23, 2016 8:08 pm Yeah, we are thinking how to negotiate the price with them. we are also afraid of asking too much discount would scare them. We first time build the house here so dont know much about the rates of these work are. btw, is it general practice that they quote the price of decking and paving separately from sealing and oiling. they quoted me 20k+ for 55m2 decking and another 30/m2 for oiling and sealing for the paving and decking. they said 7 years warranty for structural. is this general standard for landscapes? is 3500+gst reasonable for the painting job for all the timber fences? Of the hardwood timber, merbau and spotted gum, which one is the best/pricy for the decking. they didn't specify which hardwood timber though. also, what is the merbau, and any differences between them? Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 8Jun 02, 2016 10:36 am Sorry for the late reply.. I really think you should get another quote to compare. The price of 20k for 55m2 of decking seems excessive. I am an estimator for a commercial landscape company and we charge around $260m2 for merbau and spotted gum (more for larger sized board and screwing). It depends on the contractor in regards to listing sealing/painting as a separate item. $30m2 for sealing is very high. Either do it yourself (very easy!) or get another price. $20m2 would be max!!! 7 years structural warranty is required by law from what i understand. The quote should list what materials that are to be used!! merbau prices fluctuate due to availability. From my experience merbau is a tougher product but it will leech with rain and moisture for a few months which can stain surfaces. Spotted gum is a lighter colour and nicer timber(IMO!). Larger sizes of the spotted gum can warp/cup easily so definitely screw it if this is what you decide on. I really urge you to get another quote and also get the original quoter to provide you with exact detail of what is to be used. Cheers, Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 9Jun 02, 2016 11:06 pm andrewzakk1 Sorry for the late reply.. I really think you should get another quote to compare. Cheers, Thank Andrew, I certainly will negotiate it down to the reasonable price. I got the price list of a client of the same company. So, it would help I guess. Im getting the other quote atm and compare. seem like they overcharge me quite a lot. If I use the rate of my friend's quote, it turns out around 130k at most. As for decking, merbau is not good against weather? what about oil seal? will it protect them from the rain? I prefer the darker colour of decking. Regards Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 10Jun 07, 2016 9:12 am Not a problem at all glad i could help. Merbau will 'bleed' for the first few months when laid. Depending on where it is laid it could possibly stain pavers, concrete or any hard surface. We have been told to let the merbau leach it's tannins before oiling but people do oil straight after installing. I would suggest speaking with a reputable timber supplier. Best of luck Re: Is this landscape construction quote reasonable? 11Jun 07, 2016 11:49 am A lot of other hardwoods will leach tannin too Andrew. Stringybark, Blackbutt, Turpentine, Redbox, Brushbox ( before it was banned from being used as decking ) come to mind. Stewie Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do? Thanks for your help 2 10569 Seems good to me. I've been told $4-5k/sqm is reasonable in Perth. 2 12240 Landscape Design Parramatta We have been doing a large amount of landscape design work in Sydney… 0 3 |
