Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 29, 2016 4:36 pm Hi we want to supply our own bathroom vanity that we have already ,that is brand new and bought in Qld,got an email from the builders saying that they need proof that it has to comply with Australian standards, is this right, I never thought a vanity would have to comply with anything! Or they won't install it. We sent them the name of the shop and all the details beforehand ,I can't believe they came back with this, fair enough for taps etc but a vanity, is this right?
Cheers Re: HELP urgent vanity question 2Jun 30, 2016 6:41 pm Hi can anyone help with this, we really need to know if vanities need Australian Certification , I rang the bathroom place we bought ift from and the lady said she never heard of it, don't know if she was fobbing me off or not but it is holding up the contract signing so we need to know the answer. Re: HELP urgent vanity question 4Jul 02, 2016 8:31 am The vanity probably wouldn't as basically they are just a box with fancy panel for the doors and the sides but the top ??? Hmm don't know about that although I'd imagine they wouldn't have to comply either. A lot of people supply their own tops like marble or granite for a benchtop so they wouldn't comply or need to. The taps and faucet on the other hand would have to for sure. Maybe this is what they mean. Ask them to show you pics of one of theirs. I bet they can't. Stewie Re: HELP urgent vanity question 5Jul 02, 2016 8:37 am Thanks Stewie, I think that's what I will do, they said the vanity and taps, I bet if I ask them to send me the code or whatever with it on they won't be able to. I am ok with taps etc, they also said they can't install our ceiling fans , when asked why they said if there a fault they won't know if it's the fan or the wiring, hubby the sparky still laughing! Never heard that one before. Never mind he will have to do a bit of work and do it himself. Re: HELP urgent vanity question 6Jul 05, 2016 12:26 am Only thing that i know of that has to comply when installing basins, vanities, showers and any other plumbing fixture is the connection. Sewer and water must comply to standards and if there was a standard code for vanities then places like bunnings etc would be geting there asses hung in a sling one would think. I have been a plumber for over 20 yrs now and have worked in just about every state and territory in australia working for myself and on wages holding plumbing licenses in those states i worked Someone is pulling someones leg thats for sure Re: HELP urgent vanity question 9Jul 07, 2016 4:29 pm traveln Only thing that i know of that has to comply when installing basins, vanities, showers and any other plumbing fixture is the connection. Non-compliance would be given if there is a PP within 150mm of the basin. Re: HELP urgent vanity question 10Jul 07, 2016 4:44 pm This topic isn't my area of expertise but doesn't Australian timber and wood products have to have certification that it is sourced from manageable forests and not endangered rain forests? 3in1 Supadiverta. Resolved! 13Aug 31, 2016 2:38 am Hi the problem was resolved, because the builder did not show us any codes or paperwork to show why we can only use their items. Maybe when it comes to the actual build they might say something but so far so good. Cheers Thank you @.
