Hi All,
Has anyone built or had any experiences with Homexcellence? They are a custom builder and we like 2 of their home designs.
Thanks
Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 2Oct 07, 2008 10:06 am We have met with this builder and really like how we have been treated by them.
Homexcellance is the company name for the group of builders. We will be building the Huntley 290. This home is built by Cheviot Homes. Anyone who has been to the Lakeside Pakenham display village may have seen their homes. We have made a few modications to the WIR and ensuite to make them bigger... And guess what - no charges to move a wall 400mm. We have also taken up the bigger bathroom, bigger bed room 4 and home theatre upgrades - all at no extra cost. standard floor plan below: http://www.homexcellence.com.au/frames/ ... 20_823.jpg Our Floor Plan http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq11 ... serase.jpg Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 3Dec 02, 2008 7:37 am Well I guess I better update this post. We are very happy with the progress so far. It has taken only 6 weeks from initial deposit to sign our HIA contract. Our previous buolder took nearly 4 months to get to the contract stage.
All house and electrical plans have been signed and on Saturday we did part of our colour selection. We dont need to choose carpets, tiles or kitchen cabinetary until the builder is ready to install them! Colour selection so far: Ceiling /Cornice - Builders white Walls - Oriental white low sheen Doors / Skirting / Architrave - Oriental white double strength gloss Roof - Alice tiles - Stuart profile Coaldust Bricks - Australbricks Homestead Tan, white mortar Gutters - Nightsky Fascia - paperbark Downpipes - paperbark Eaves - builders white Garage door - slim line panel lift in Paperbark Wiondows - Aluminium in paperbark Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 5Dec 02, 2008 8:26 am borg Just a comment regarding Night Sky is that still availble? It was taking of the list of standard colors depending on when it is purchased it may/maynot be available. hrmm. going by the colorbond website it looks to no longer be available. The guttering may then just be painted black?? dont see any other colour which would look good with what we have already selected. grrrr Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 6Dec 02, 2008 9:19 am I'll say this up front: I used to be a Sales Manager for the stable of builders under Homexcellence but rest assured, I owe them nothing and am giving a total honest assessment of their product and prices.
With Cheviot Homes you will find that the price stacks up really well compared to the other local builders and you will get a contract done 10 times quicker than any other builder due to the fact that they only have several staff working in admin and that they're only building 30-odd houses a year. I rented one of their ex displays for a year whilst I built a custom designed house with another one of the homexcellence builders (since left them) and my wife still reckons we should've stayed in the Cheviot house, a Huntley also, as it was really good value and delivered the right rooms that we wanted. Probably would've been about 150k better off too as it was in Pakenham and we built in Berwick. The owner of Cheviot was the guy supervising and out on site so when we were having meetings with the builder we were dealing with the boss, the supervisor, the purchaser et al... which made things go real smooth. The only downside we had to trying to sell for him was the lack of designs but we had a niche market so that worked out real well. Fact: homexcellence is Frank Facey First National's building brand ala Premier Building Group is Hooker's, out in the south east. They have the copyright on all of the old Avonwood designs that they bought from the administrator when Avonwood went bust! How's that for a bit of trivia? You won't find a cheaper builder than Cheviot though, if you are building down on Phillip Island or in the western part of Gippy as they have very cheap surcharges, or at least did when I was working in conjunction with them 4-years ago? Other builders I have worked with over the past 20 years have surcharges ranging from 5k (Top 5 builder) for Traralgon up to 20k (boutique, smaller, local builder) and Cheviot were charging only 3k at the time! In my opinion: and I work for the opposition in the Lakeside display village, is that you would go very far to find a better serviced builder for the price. TtT give thumbs UP for Homexcellence & definitely Cheviot! (I'll take the cash in a brown paper bag thanks Cheviot ) Don't fall for the "Freebies" scam Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 7Dec 02, 2008 9:36 am Hey TtT
Our sales rep at Pakenham told us that HX is owned Frank Facey FN (plus all deposits have been made to Frank Facey and receipts come from them). Also told that the builder / supervisor of the house is the owner of the company. I liked how when we walked thru the display house and they had placards telling us what was and wasnt includied in the price. They are very flexible in making changes that suited our needs. So far everything has gone so well. Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 8Jan 02, 2009 7:25 am Just a little upate
As of the 18th December 2008 we now have a building permit!!! Only took a couple of days to get. All paperwork is now complete. (ie insurance, loan aprroval, etc) Our builder is on leave for a couple of weeks. Hope to see a site start by the end of Jan!! Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 10Jan 05, 2009 7:59 am bec_e Hi - good to hear things are progressing. Just a question do these builders build all over melbourne?? Also any idea of starting price range? Thanks We were told they do not build past the "west gate bridge" Mainly build in the SESuburbs of Melb. The house we are building without any extras was about $193K exc site costs. The house as we saw displayed was I think $211K. Our price is $225k inc site costs and main other costs being eves and brick infills above all windows Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 11Jan 05, 2009 11:31 am Hi fredstar,
Great to hear your experience with Homexellence is good and that everything is on track. I am interested in the Beaufort and will be checking it out this weekend. Initially, I was a bit reluctant to look at smaller builders in case there were hassles but it seems you will run in to trouble with all types... All the best with the rest of the build! Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 12Jan 05, 2009 11:45 am Hey Rookie
Call them and see if the displays are open this weekend.. not sure if their closed until mid Jan. The Beaufort has heas of storage space but we liked the layout of the Huntley better. I will keep this thread updated often once building comennces. Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 13Jan 21, 2009 2:57 pm Little update:
Despite still being on leave I got a call from our builder advising that the site scrap started yesterday. Going for a drive this evening to check out the progress!! Re: Building the Huntley HX/Cheviot Homes - nearly at handover!! 14Jan 22, 2009 1:15 pm Photo Time:

We are also about to build a Huntley 290. We are very happy with the progress and service. My partner has built with them before.... round 2 for him! I also work in the building industry and couldnt be happier. We are expected to start over the next month or two.. our land is settling next week! Re: Building the Huntley with HX/Cheviot Homes - Frame going up 19Mar 24, 2009 7:23 am Went past the block yesterday. They have done a lot of work in a week -from under half a frame up to pretty much a complete frame with fascia and guttering and all windows in. Monday was the brickie's first day. Only 2 pallets of bricks were delivered. We also picked out our floor (400x400) and wall (250x400) tiles, carpet and upgraded the kitchen from laminate to vinyl wrap and glass splashback.
