Anyone who is on this forum probably already knows of this report but just in case..... the ATA recently completed a study into household fuel choice which showed that new homes that go all-electric with solar save between $9000-$18000 over 10 years compared with a home that has gas appliances and no solar. I certainly regret getting gas considering that half of our gas bill is purely service to property and we have an open flue gas heater which is going to be banned in Victoria soon:(.

I have solar and gas also, find that in a cold climate with not much sun around in winter and also not been home in the much shorter winter daytime, that my solar is brilliant in summer, even autumn, but much less effective in winter, I find six star brevis gas heating for a 50 square house, which we heat about 25_30 squares, run heater about 3 hours a day which is enough to heat the house till bedtimes, running costs of 360 a quarter.

I’ve have read that ATA article and am building a new house now.
I cook with induction but with 4 kids I welcome the instant gas hot water.
I tend to agree with the ATA but only time will tell.
I hope to end up with a 7kw PV system but am also adding a pool into the mix.
Fortunately I have single tariff peak, and separate off peak circuit also for pool pump and washing machine.
Supply charges for peak and off peak, plus gas and fresh plus recycled water will add up each day.
