Hi Guys,
Got an issue with my new house and I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. My builder has placed the return air vent on my living room wall, right where my TV and entertainment unit are supposed to go, rather than using the adjoining hallway around the corner. I was absolutely furious when I saw it, as not only does it look plain ugly in that spot, but it also hinders my ability to place furniture there, and ruins my plans of creating a feature wall in that location.
I brought it up with my site supervisor and asked why it was placed there, he didn't really have an answer and blamed the light switch in the hallway and said it was in the way, to which I replied that is crap because it can be placed just under the light switch as there is enough room. He said the last 3 houses they've done, they had the return air in the same location, which I don't believe for a second as I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would be ok with that.
I've asked for it to be relocated and he said he's going to ask and see if it can be done, but I get the feeling I'm going to be told no, which I can't accept. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what my rights are? It does not specify on the floor plan where to cut the hole, it only specifies the location of return air, but common sense would say to cut the vent in the adjoining hallway where it is out of sight and won't hinder the placement of furniture. Please see photo for reference.
