Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 3Aug 24, 2008 12:10 am I like the olive green (thinking also your tiles elsewhere and floor)
so I give that my very unprofessional wouldnt have a clue not to be trusted in any way vote whilst we wait on michelle are you still having that gorgeous caramel main paint colour? I love how the upper cabinets appear floating Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 5Aug 24, 2008 1:45 am Hi Mrs B
While I do love lime green, I think with your veneer, and the granite you need a 'softer' tone ...or maybe it's a "warmer" shade (that's probably a totally wrong description!!! ) so I would vote for the olive geen as well - just my opinion, though! Absolutely love the kitchen design - can't wait to see it in!!! I think I'm just as desperate to see your house come together as I am my own - in fact, I KNOW I am!!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 6Aug 24, 2008 7:37 am Hi Bec,
yes we still are having that nice flow colour...much to my builders surprise as most people go for white. I think that Olive Green will look beautiful with my colour selections although I still really like the henna red. I still dont know what colour to paint above the cupboards because the Kitchen guy said the white cupboards might get lost with a neutral colour Hi Lyn, I love both too so we will see what other people think. Hi Petal, You are right about the softer tone, I am not going ahead with the lime green but I still wanted to show the picture.I like the kitchen design (I think) but I find it hard to visualise from the plans he gave me. There is alot of detail missing and I have had quite lengthly discussions about the look I was after. My builder told me the cainet maker is excellent so he seems to know what I want I also am thinking about having another colour mixed into the overheads but am I going to far with too many colours? Any 'outrageous' suggestions greatly appreciated as I will probably love it. Mrs B Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 7Aug 24, 2008 8:03 am Mrs B in the firs picture the top cupboards look like they are floating. Is this what you want to achieve?
I'm going to go against the grain and say I love the red splashback. Sorry everyone else. As for the cupboards getting lost against the wall. Again that makes me think you want that contrast for the "floating" effect. What are the colours like in the rest of the room? Could they stand a strong colour above the top cupboards? Have you got a feature wall colour nearby you could echo above the cupboard? Are you considering repeating the splashback colour elsewhere as a feature wall? Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 8Aug 24, 2008 8:22 am Henna red would be the go for me only because I think it would look absolutely amazing at night - moreso than the green, though it is also a lovely shade.
REALLY TOUGH CHOICE ! Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 9Aug 24, 2008 9:07 am Hi Mrs B…….very nice….
What you haven’t mentioned is what window dressing you are thinking of having on the long window at the back wall. This needs to be thought of before anything else. That will unfortunately be yet another colour on that wall…..unless you are leaving it bare??????? That would give it a tie in.
I wonder if the window will be dressed to blend in with the splash back or as a contrast? Some how I hadn't even registered that there was a window in the splashback area.??? crqazy eh. Despite seeing it in the photo. I guess I was dazzled by the lovely kitchen pics below it. Thats why You are the Decor Pro MIchelle. That window complicates it colourwise. I couldn't imagine wanting yet another different colour, as in cupboards, splashback, above top of cupboards and window dressing being all different as it would make it very difficult to co-ordinate them all. Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 11Aug 24, 2008 10:25 am Mrs B I like the green as well for the splashback. I'd continue this colour for the entire wall right up around the overhead cupboards.
I wouldn't put a window dressing on that window at all. Being over the cooktop it would get filthy. But maybe a stainless steele venetion would be ok? Then you're not introducing another colour as it's already there with the appliances? But if it was me I'd have an external shading device if I was going to have anything. I also like the red but I think the green is fresher if that makes sense. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 12Aug 24, 2008 11:41 am Olive green gets my vote
I think I'd do the wall above and around the cupboards in a rich chocolate brown, similar to the pic you posted. I think it would look amazing with your white cupboards and green splashback!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 13Aug 24, 2008 12:19 pm I love the idea of the olive green with the caramel colour you are having.
Are you able to do the paint up above the cabinet aswell, much like the first picture you showed us. It is better to have a contrasting colour so to achieve the flaoting cabinet effect that you are looking for...... Its a personal opion though and I just think greens are always such fresh and happy colours for living areas. But then they say red is a passionate colour and it might bring on some very passionate cooking if you have this in your kitchen. I like the idea of not putting any window covering on your window but maybe a roller shutter outside might be an option. I am sure whatever the colour you choose it will just be a compliment to an already lovely looking house. Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 14Aug 24, 2008 1:20 pm BTW, that lime green colour does look absolutely stunning in kitchens with charcoal cabinetry ... if anyone gets really brave (seen it in an office kitchen - people either loved it or hated it)! Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 15Aug 24, 2008 2:42 pm Mrs B……the expanse of wall above your wall cupboards will not be as great by the time your cupboards go up. Unlike this photo, your gape is much smaller.
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ No doubt you will be taking the glass splash back all the way to the side walls? This will give you only a small amount of wall above the wall cupboards, I think a bold colour up there will look out of place. As much as I love the greens, in this case and with your selections (As well as your wall colour!) I have to say I am going with the red. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ All this said….I’m assuming there will be no window dressing on the slim window. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 17Aug 24, 2008 3:03 pm Hi Michelle,
Just got back from the footy finals and all these fantastic replies Glass window No window furnishings...it looks out to a very private courtyard. I am thinking of having bamboo or the like in front of the window to give the outlook more interest. Feature Wall The kit guy had me in a bit of a panic about all the space up top so do you think I should just have my flow colour there? Deep red splah back I love that colour but nothing else is red in the house...does that matter (red is my favourite colour btw) White cupboards Should I add another colour into the mix...I feel like its too boring or would that be too much? Thanks Michelle...this and the laundry are the last on my list for colours. Mrs B Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 18Aug 24, 2008 3:07 pm Michelle Just a though also…….paint the wall above the wall cupboards in the same red as the splash back…..that will make the wall seem higher. I had thought of that but the whole wall red now that would be brave and wonderful....What does every one else think? Mrs B Re: colour for feature wall and splash back 19Aug 24, 2008 3:11 pm joles Mrs B I like the green as well for the splashback. I'd continue this colour for the entire wall right up around the overhead cupboards. Hi Jo, yep, thinking about this as well, like they did it in the picture. I want it to be dramatic but still very elegant. It will all come together...I am going to post a few more kitchen pictures to help me and others visualise the look I'm after. Deep red splah back I love that colour but nothing else is red in the house...does that matter (red is my favourite colour btw) [/quote] If red's your favourite colour, then absolutely go for the red! I like Michelle's suggestion to paint above the cupboards red so that the walls seem higher - I didn't realise it would have that effect (....which is probably why I'm not the interior decaorator! ) - you can never have your wlls looking too high! Hmm....pink is my favourite colour........might restrain myself from using it for the splashback, though!!!!!! ......am just imagining DH's reaction! !!!!!!!!!!!
