Bricking looks wrong? 8Apr 27, 2017 9:16 pm I'm surprise that others are being somewhat nonchalant about the state of your bricks - forget the cut bricks and uneven mortar lines, look at all that mortar all over the bricks. I hope they intend to clean all of that. All our brick walls are to be rendered and I am sorry to say that our brickwork looks better than yours. Re: Building new home. They should get cleaned up after brickwork is completed. Good to hear you're happy with your brickwork Re: Building new home. Bricking looks wrong? 10Apr 28, 2017 5:14 pm ttang1 Hi all I'm building a new home with a volume builder and we are at bricking stage. Looking at the job I am disappointed at some sections. The section is as shown below. Obviously I can see they have cut the brick to make it fit. Can they do this? Why did they have to cut? No cuts needed. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Plans says 110cm, I measure to be 113cm. Is 2cm extra the reason for the brickies to make a cut? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Do I have any grounds to challenge this and make them redo or accept the way it is? I've already spoken to the site supervisor and he's pretty much saying that's the way it is, nothing we can do. Some of those joints are referred to as zipper joints where the bricks are cut to allow a window, granted not the most desirable outcome aesthetically but reastically a bit dissapointing that greater care was not taken to calculate how many bricks and generally the bricky should increase/decrease the amount of mortar ever so slightly across the full run so that it's consistent and you would not notice...that's what separates an experienced trade to one that isn't. I'd highlight to the SS, ask them to correct, they may be able to remove some bricks and redo some courses without impacting the ones above too much...but really depends on load etc above. But as others said, you don't notice it unless you really look, and know what to look for...you'll always know it's there...challenge them for something you wanted but didn't get and see if you can work out an upgrade here or there. Hope these thoughts help... Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7252 welcome to learning that colours vary in different lighting conditions. 1 2903 I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 29738 |
