That would allow you to get rid of the two small doors either side and have 6 doors very similar sizes. You do not need a larger range hood in order to increase the size of the cupboards. If its a pull out rangehood then the cabinet needs to be the same size as the rangehood! The OP never said what sort of rangehood it was. The plans say integrated but that could be pull out or undermount. If you acutally look at the plans it shows a cooktop the same width as the oven so the rangehood is actually undersized and should be increased in width to be the same as the cooktop and oven! If its an undermount rangehood and you make a bigger cabinet than the rangehood then you actually waste space each side of the rangehood motor. I build and design kitchens every day. 9/10 the cabinet is the same size as the rangehood! That said, it does look like a 750 or 800 range hood over a 900mm cooktop, so that should be fixed. In the end I think we can agree that the plans are not the best and there are a number of solutions to fix the small "panels" at each end of the overhead cupboards that are a little more elegant than what is shown. Overhead cupboards on plan confusing 10Apr 23, 2017 6:15 pm chrismarshall3 so what should I tell my builder? It depends on what outcome you want? There have been a few suggestions above, so where have they guided you? At a minimum, I would consider a wider range hood to fully cover the stovetop as mentioned by CuttingEdgeKitchens, which will lead to approximately 450mm cupboard doors over a 900mm cupboard (or slightly larger or small depending on the installation needs of the range hood). I would then put two matching width cupboards doors on either side of the centre cupboard, and fill the small amount of extra space at the ends with a small blank section. But that's just me - it's your house so you need to decide. Re: Overhead cupboards on plan confusing 11Apr 23, 2017 10:37 pm Can I give you a tip? If you have an open access area on top of the cupboard why not extend the cupboards up a bit more and close the open access area on top of the cupboards with a subframe and bulkhead. It means you won't need to go up there to clean the dust.
