Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Your Connected Home. What have you done / what do you ne 26Apr 21, 2017 1:14 pm arcadelt I have a Sonos 5.1 system plus about six other zones. I have had wired 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 systems in the past. The difference is not so marked that it would outstrip the convenience of the Sonos. That is not to say the the Sonos doesn't sound good too, as IMHO it sounds just as good, but you need the right TV to get real 5.1. Better still, the Sonos just keeps getting better because they constantly upgrade the software. I think Sonos would certainly be useful in terms of being an easy setup for being able to play music throughout the house etc so that would be good. If it's fine for a home theatre as well then that's ideal, particularly with the upgrades. Any thoughts on what the right TV's are for getting 5.1? When you use Sonos for your home theatre, you use the TV as the source switcher, similar to how surround receivers used to be used. You need a TV that can pass Dolby 5.1 to the Sonos Playbar, otherwise the Sonos system will only provide digitised surround sound (still good, but not the fullest extent of its capabilities). In my testing, Sony is good but Samsung not. I have not installed with other brands. Re: Your Connected Home. I have a house/land package in Perth with Redink Ideally planned along with electrical design and installed during build. Locations for optimal wifi coverage both internal and out, and wired connections and their centralised patch need to be installed at the same time as electrical. Ideally run in conduit so if it needs to be replaced it can be done. Most sparkies can do data cabling and know the requirements around separation and crossover points when installed in a wall Re: Your Connected Home. What have you done / what do you ne 29Apr 22, 2017 4:18 pm Personally I wouldnt bother too much with data cabling in a house. I'd spend my money elsewhere. Wireless is generally fine. I'd run a few cat6 outlets behind the TV and a couple to the office/study. Maybe one or two outlets to prime locations for WiFi routers. I actually am a licenced cabler so I ran 12 cat6 data outlets through my house and the only ones I use are for the smart TV (Netflix), XBox, and my wife's home office computer. If I had to pay someone to do it I wouldn't have bothered. What have you done / what do you ne 32Apr 23, 2017 7:18 am arcadelt GLO I also really like the BigAss Haiku Fans (the other one is Aeratron) and their summer mode. Ideally I'd like to tie it in with the HVAC system somehow. Big *** Fans are part of the "Works With Nest" program, so if you have Nest thermostats controlling your HVAC, they will work together. I really like the idea if Nest Learning Thermostat and that it links with the Haiku Fans, but I'm not sure if it will link in with Actron ESP+ controller. The alternative to Nest is the EcoBee3 due to Wi-Fi connectivity and compatibility with Alexa and Homekit, lots allows for multiple sensors. The other is the Honeywell Lyric which taps into your location and local weather forecasts via Wi-Fi then anticipate potential temperature changes and compensate for the weather. Anyone have experiences with these units? Re: Your Connected Home. Nest does this too, or potentially does. None of these products are available in Australia yet, so any support is incidental. Re: Your Connected Home. I have the same question too...considering going with Solar and Battery Storage after finishing construction. What cabling should I provide for monitoring and battery storage + backup? Also does anyone know if the batteries are weather resistant? I.e do they need to be indoors, or can they be installed outdoors next to the electricity meters? Re: Your Connected Home.
