Originally wanted a cupboard pull out bin, but on our island bench from the right it goes sink, dishwasher, cupboard then cutlery draws. I want the bin under the sink, but Mr wants bin in its own but it's too far away and the layout doesn't really allow for it. I think we'll go for a pull out bin under the sink, but won't have it attached to the cupboard door... Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 172Jun 10, 2017 7:41 pm Love the window that will create amazing light! Looks like it's all moving along. That fee was ridiculous, we are glad we don't have that (I asked specifically) as I'm sure we will change our minds on things 😬 So indecisive sometimes. Nothing wrong with a tight budget, I work better with a budget than not! We have cut a few things out of ours and also are getting a few things taken out of the contract to be done by contractors ourselves. Found in our travels we can get the air con and flooring much cheaper ourselves. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 173Jun 10, 2017 8:21 pm jmart90 We are having the same discussion at the moment! Ours is not overly tight really, I think I'm tighter than the budget if that makes sense. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 175Jun 10, 2017 9:07 pm In regards to your bin Shellu we did the same as what Jmart has suggested. Just picked a cupboard and removed the shelf out of the centre and it worked perfectly fine. Hahhaha you sound like me Shellu I get quite cross with the price of somethings and will hunt to the end of the earth for a better price. Agree with Abuild about getting items from external suppliers, I got ducted and flooring at awesome rates, the savings I made there gave me more $$$ to play with in the kitchen. I'm better with a budget too and will stick to it till the death. Should of seen me gasp, choke and pass out at my plantation shutter quote I got back on Thursday . Totally not going shutters this time . So the funds I'm saving there means I get wallpaper woohoo Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 176Jun 11, 2017 6:22 am shellu ABuild Love the window that will create amazing light! So exciting for final approval, that's our next hurdle. Can't wait to see your slab go down! It all happens so fast after that. Our neighbours slab went down two weeks ago and there colour bond should be on Tuesday! There have been men here working from 6am with lights on hats and not leaving till 7 Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 177Jun 15, 2017 10:57 pm Following. Great read so far, like the colours and choices made. I am in the process of pre contract at the moment (however its been a few yeas and started again from scratch) ill be doing colours on Monday. Haven't updated my old blog for awhile not sure whether to continue with it or start a fresh one as we changed builders. Anyway I have some new ideas from reading your blog. Your still away off from concrete being poured?? Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 178Jun 16, 2017 8:44 pm Hey Princess. Yeah we are still a month off maybe? We aren't rushing and I also don't have a lot of time to meet or see suppliers outside of work so I am waiting for the school holidays when I can get a lot of it done. We are fortunate that we don't have to rush and can take our time! Do you have a thread to follow? Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 179Jun 16, 2017 9:59 pm My old blog is the link at the bottom of my message. The builder, house plan, colours etc have all changed now but I haven't updated it with the new stuff yet. I was waiting for our drawings to come back before I put up the plan, but may as well. The plan is from a bigger builder but they share plans with the local builder we're using. We have been told we will be building in July, which is good! I am so over it all and just ready for some action! Our change to the smaller local builder has been the best decision yet, however having done it we have a smaller garage, alfresco and one room less. Not rushing through this time is a good idea, as then you can make sure everything is spot on. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 180Jul 02, 2017 10:43 pm Hi everyone, Sorry for the lack of updates, it simply because there aren't really any updates! We received our contract on Friday which I've sent to our broker. We will be selecting tapware, doors and confirming facade choices next week. Once we have signed contract and selected those we should be underway. Our builder books in three selection appointments. They are roughly: 1.external and plumbing 2. Flooring and appliances 3. Benchtops and paint Once the first is done they start the build. They said it will be a 175 day build, they don't rush but are also delivering houses 4 weeks ahead at the moment. Our estate is crazy busy, about 8 houses going up at once in the street (only one street in the estate). Building has started on either side of us. I like how the fences clearly define where our block is. We met one of our neighbours they were awesome. Gives me good feelings!
