Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 41Apr 27, 2017 8:23 pm Ohh so exciting! Get those few things nutted out and get started! We've gone for a double sink in our stone benchtop. Our sales guy talked us out of getting an undermount sink. It was going to cost us something like $600-$700 to undermount it, but besides the cost he said 1 it's much harder to keep clean in those little joins and 2 it's quite easy to chip the edges! I'm not sure if those who have undermount agree with that, but it was enough to change our minds and I think a normal sink is fine! In saying that, we did change our sink but just took out the ugly draining part so it's just a double bowl. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 42Apr 27, 2017 9:25 pm You can upgrade to a flush mount sink so it will be a finish like this, which is what we will be having with our stone Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 44Apr 27, 2017 10:14 pm Undermount looks great but can chip and is a pain to clean from what I've experienced. I went with stone and flush mount sinks even tho I think undermount looks nicer. And have you seen the retractable draining tray things you can get on eBay - much nicer than having the draining part! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 47Apr 28, 2017 11:36 am shellu So cool charlibear! That was priced at $1300 so out of budget unfortunately. Ahh bummer!! Why so much? It didn't cost us anything to swap out a double bowl sink for a single flush mount sink... Either I'm getting something for nothing that is labour intensive or you are getting ripped off... Strange how builders charge out things, our white mortar cost us $1000 to upgrade but coral clients say it was only a couple of hundred for them Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 48Apr 28, 2017 11:38 am Yeah it's crazy the difference. Not sure why, the standard sink for our builder is a double bowl sink with drainer. Anything else is an upgrade. Maybe it's the arrangements they have with different suppliers? We aren't upgrading much at all so I feel justified with the undermount. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 49Apr 29, 2017 6:16 pm Well I thought we had our main flooring choices sorted until I brought it home and my partner queried whether it was too dark. It is dark but with the right walls I think it will look lovely. I put the sample against a white wall to show what it would look like. We chose flooring first, is that what most people do? Nothing else has been chosen at this stage. So we have a timber laminate, carpet and bathroom/laundry tile.
