Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 22Apr 12, 2017 8:04 pm They probably added it into our price, but if it was itemised and I saw the cost I don't know if we would have included it tbh Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 23Apr 12, 2017 10:29 pm That is a disappointing price for the soft close!... I'm not keen to talk to my joinery-er (cabinet maker... ) because I've already had a fit with him over the cost of his benchtop quotes. But we were thinking about soft-close for our cabinets as well. I might find out what he would quote... will let you know! I'll post up the rest of our prices too, just for interest sake. I'm not sure the soft close is worth it, that we can justify the cost. But then I wonder...every time I'm in the kitchen and a cupboard door bangs... will I regret it. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 26Apr 13, 2017 5:32 pm Some of this surprises me... We paid to upgrade our ceiling height to 2550, paid to upgrade the front door to 1200, and paid for a tap to the fridge area, but to be charged for eaves what the? Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 27Apr 13, 2017 5:37 pm Yeah it's funny what is standard and what isn't! I think it probably all balances out in some way? Eaves are in the convenance of our estate but I think we would have upgraded anyway as I like the look of them. Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 28Apr 14, 2017 6:18 pm Update! We visited our builder yesterday to discuss the latest quote (above). We have decided to only add soft close to the drawers not to all cupboard and drawers. This should reduce the price slightly. We discussed timing and are on track to start early/mid June. This is our choice of a start date to ensure we have enough funds tucked away for extras and things. I talked about getting the electrician to do a couple of cash jobs and good news is they said we'd be welcome on site anytime! Woohoo. I am so excited to get things moving, someone across the road got their water meter installed the other day and that made me excited! How ridiculous. There are currently no houses in our estate, we may well be one of the first. It's a small estate, 40 odd houses and is border by parklands and a school so can't get any bigger! Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 29Apr 14, 2017 8:15 pm Hi, Our builder quoted us $1100 for soft close drawers and $260 for soft close cupboards. We decided not to have them. Building Monte Carlo 40- Wisdom homes Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 31Apr 14, 2017 8:21 pm shellu Thanks MandM+4. Any regrets? The more I think about it the more trivial it seems! Haven't built yet but hopefully not! I would have liked them but they weren't a must have and just didn't seem worth the money to me. Building Monte Carlo 40- Wisdom homes Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 32Apr 15, 2017 5:14 pm For interest's sake, our cabineteer (not a real word...) quoted approximately ~150 per drawer, ~ 200 per cupboards.. not sure why, but there you go! Incidentally, we visited one of our friend's house today for Easter and noticed that they only had soft close for a few of their drawers... so you're not alone in partially 'upgrading' your drawers and cupboards! We broke down the cost with our builder. It's $90 for each drawer, the initial quote was putting soft close on all doors and cupboards. That's great to know we aren't weirdos for doing a partial upgrade! Ha ha Charlibear I've been watching your build for so long! I feel a bit star stuck that you are following mine! Looking forward to following along Thanks Tribe. Your kitchen photos have been on my inspiration board for a while! This process is so exciting. It could be addictive! Looking forward to seeing your build Oh wow really? That's kinda cool, our Metricon kitchen was simple but pretty. The first pic you have with the black over heads was what I was going to use in our new build if I had over heads, I love the traditional black and white with the shine from the mirrored splash back. The second one is beautiful too and what I considered for my bathrooms. (Ok I'm kidding myself, I haven't locked in my colours yet so it's more than a likely going to change ) Can't wait to see what you settle on. OMG addictive is an understatement, I've had the bug to build again the second we got our first set of keys . The home one community is generally a great place to share and learn, I'm sure Charli would agree it's such a privilege to be able to share our journeys and make some pals along the way. Charli has to be one of the most supportive and kind hearted souls on the threads Re: Our First Home - Local Builder 40Apr 27, 2017 8:19 pm We are so close to finalising our quote, just made a few last minute changes if we don't decide soon though we won't be starting in June. So...the only debate my partner and I have had is over the kitchen bench tops and sink. I have pushed for stone the whole way, he for laminate. We are having stone but he doesn't think the undermount sink is worth the upgrade. Did anyone put a standard sink in the stone? Does it look ok? We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
