We've just signed with Fairmont for a build in Myponga. We had a similar experience to you; we paid a deposit with another builder and had soil testing but when the footings and contract came back we picked up over $10 000 in "mistakes" and "oversights". They were happy to correct them but we had lost all trust and so made the decision to start again. Fairmont was a builder that we had originally overlooked but someone recommended them and we were really impressed with their quote. After the first round with the other builder we are now the world's most cynical first time builders but so far Fairmont keep surprising us - I have a feeling that our sales person enjoyed proving us wrong Its a blessing in disguise ! Im that full of knowledge now its unbelievable hah ! How long ago did you sign your contract do you mind me asking what stage you are upto now ? Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 12Mar 05, 2017 10:38 am Amymay Hello there ! I must admit i have stalked your thread i find these so helpful as it is so overwhelming building a house ! What process are you upto so far i have no yet been given a construction date ? I am still in the early stages as I've had to start all over again ? Im also not sure how to reply to individual comments ? I see people doing it but i cant work it out You can click the "Quote" button Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 13Mar 05, 2017 10:43 am I know what you mean! We have now used a custom plan and I think this time around there was much more research and thought put into it. My husband might argue too much thought We signed contracts at the end of January and received our copy last week. They have already completed soil testing and I think site survey and we are told to expect our reports within the next two weeks. We have read that Fairmont can be very slow and have terrible after sales support but I think that there is another build starting nearby so this part of the process is being hurried a little. Still we expect the worst and then can only be pleasantly surprised Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 14Mar 05, 2017 10:44 am Amymay Thank you so very much MJT i have been stressing that there is all these extra hidden cost we can get hit with during the build so you have put my mund at ease abit ! These are some of what we have included in our contract (hopefully will help anyone looking to build in the future) Upgraded insulation to external walls R2.5 Internal walls R2.0 Ceiling R5.0 2700mm ceiling height 23 power points (20 are double) 21 light points Brick work over windows and doors Fairmont include bonus kitchen upgrades and bathroom upgrades Termite treatment to tiber frames and penetrations 3k soil removal (which i have been told will probably not be enough?) Our storm water we have decided to do after the build but am interested in hearing how much anyone has been quoted to do this as construction is happening ? ? If you are getting paved or concreted paths, you will want a perimeter termite barrier too, It can be spray or plastic barrier. We went with the plastic one as it lasts for up to 25 years. With the spray option it's cheaper but you have to redo it every few years. We were originally going to do stormwater ourselves after the build, and we assumed it would cost about $1000-1500 for the materials. The builder quoted us $2200 and they did it during the build. I think it's better this way anyway as you also have it installed during the build especially if there is rain around. It also means you dont need to try and get machinery in after the fact to dig up and make a mess. Oh thank you for your advice i will most definitely look into them doing our storm water as we have such a tight block it will be a pain trying to do it ourselves i did not realize they do it for a reasonable price ! Well figure crossed Fairmont do. Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 16Mar 06, 2017 10:39 am bubbles_family I know what you mean! This is alittle strange what exactly do they do in those few weeks before sending it back ? Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 17Mar 23, 2017 10:17 pm Hi, we received our bank pack in the form of an email today (including our final plans and elevations). We're just hanging out for our soil and engineering reports which should be making there way to us as we speak I have to say that our sales person has, so far, been terrific. He is quick to get back to us and always finds an answer to our questions. I really need to start a thread Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 18Mar 24, 2017 1:47 pm bubbles_family Hi, we received our bank pack in the form of an email today (including our final plans and elevations). I have been told i should receive first lot of paper work early next week, its great to see someone around the same time frame as i am ! I hope your soil report comes back okay thats the one thing im hanging for ! Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 19Mar 27, 2017 9:13 pm Hi! We just received our soil reports. Massive sigh of relief! They came in slightly under what we allowed for and we'll under what our previous builder estimated - no retaining or steep driveway on this report?! (As expected on a flat block of land!) Looks like we will be racing each other I'm looking forward to following someone building at the same time Re: New home builder Fairmont, Reynella SA 20Mar 27, 2017 9:28 pm That's good to hear, no surprises Look forward to seeing how your build progresses Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
