Browse Forums Building A New House Re: List of Things You Can't Do Later 11Mar 03, 2017 8:11 am Thank you G1NOSAUR, shadow and Special_K, here is the updated list: List of Things You Can't Do Later (Either because its not possible structurally OR because of high costs OR because its not going to look nice)
I would recommend folks reading this list also read the contributors' thread as they have added more details and explanations and if necessary contact them as well directly for clarifications. Anything else to add to this lis!? Re: List of Things You Can't Do Later 12Mar 03, 2017 9:42 am I have one ... sort-of. It's something you can only do "in between". Getting a protective (and less fugly) epoxy coating applied to the garage floor! You don't pay the builder to do this, of course, but once you've actually moved in there's close to zero chance you can ever manage the logistics to get it done. So you somehow have to coordinate the people with the appropriate safety gear (the Bunnings stuff which you can apply without dying isn't good enough to last) to do it after handover but before you start moving your crap into the garage (and frankly - the garage is the first place you put something which you don't want to chuck but doesn't belong in any of your shiny new rooms). Re: List of Things You Can't Do Later 14Mar 03, 2017 12:00 pm It's mostly for appearance. I don't like unfinished concrete inside at the best of times, but cars tend to drip various fluids which seep into the concrete & never come out, things like paint tins get dropped; and it's nicer if you can clean with a quick wipe (whereas if your car drips anything but water on unfinished concrete it seeps in & never comes out). The builder also tends to use the garage for a place to keep messy stuff while building, our garage has all sorts of ingrained circular rust marks where tins were rusting, there's some spilled bathroom sealant, splatters of paint etc. Now my garage is used for tinkering with cars, so it's even more useful to be able to wipe things off rather than having them soak in & stay forever. I've just used a plain light grey, easier to see dropped things & also stops the garage feeling too dark; but for a garage that you want to look a bit neater/cleaner than a car-tinkering shed like mine you can get all sorts of funky patterns in the coatings, such as: ]http://blogule.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/concrete-floor-coatings-polyaspartic-floor-coatings-advacoatc3a2c2ae-concrete-floor-coatings.jpg]This Re: List of Things You Can't Do Later 15Mar 03, 2017 12:01 pm Sorry I can't find how to edit the above ... dunno how this forum's links work ... let me try again: http://blogule.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/concrete-floor-coatings-polyaspartic-floor-coatings-advacoatc3a2c2ae-concrete-floor-coatings.jpg Re: List of Things You Can't Do Later 16Mar 03, 2017 1:42 pm Forg Sorry I can't find how to edit the above ... dunno how this forum's links work ... let me try again: http://blogule.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/concrete-floor-coatings-polyaspartic-floor-coatings-advacoatc3a2c2ae-concrete-floor-coatings.jpg Thanks Forg.
