Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 08, 2017 8:47 pm Hi. The house we are building in Victoria is about to be plastered. I am curious as to whether it is normal to have no wall insulation between storeys on a two storey house? I have an independent inspector however they did not report this and have not answered my question when emailed. The house is meant to be 6 star energy rating. Mine has it and it's also on my contract as I needed it to get 6 stars. I think it's a good add on to have if you can do it. Re: Wall Insulation Between Storeys 4Feb 10, 2017 9:32 am Most builders don't include it standard between the ground and first floor as it doesn't really make any difference to the homes thermal abilities. The only reson to add insulation there is for accoustics to help shield footstep noise from upstairs. I'm paying about 2 grand extra on my build for accoustic insulation in the ground floor ceiling. Re: Wall Insulation Between Storeys 6Feb 10, 2017 10:17 am Many builders won't put insulation between floors unless you specifically ask. While it can have some thermal advantages, insulation between floors is usually done for acoustic (noise) control (especially for footfall noise). Proper acoustic insulation is different from thermal ('normal') insulation and works much better at controlling sound.
