Looking forward to seeing it finished with the fish tank. My build - viewtopic.php?t=87470 Re: Our Metricon Merricks 38 123Jun 17, 2017 8:59 pm My stairs are dark too - things can stick however what I would say is just a warm cloth (maybe microfibre) works best. Don't use a mop (I did that, big mistake with white stuff getting stuck on the edge or treads). After you've moved in and cleaned a few times, shouldn't be an issue! Sorry to hear they have so many things too fix. Don't know when the Quilty of things just can't be good to begin with. Are you getting tiles through builder as well? Or you doing it after hand over? viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: Our Metricon Merricks 38 125Jun 17, 2017 9:15 pm About the stairs maybe try researching it. You might get some good ideas how to keep it cleaner. viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: Our Metricon Merricks 38 126Jun 17, 2017 11:35 pm The end result looks very promising. specially those big awning windows at the back and the stacker door with corner post removed.
congrats on handover! Btw NabeeIC, we are thinking about doing the led light place holder as well. Do you mind sharing some insights on them? For the staircase , our current timber stair got some sort of treatment but it gets insanely slippery when it get wet. I`d think twice to get them treated. Re: Our Metricon Merricks 38 127Jun 17, 2017 11:49 pm Looking good Nab. Kinda random, but if you are happening to be looking for a good decent priced tiler hit me up. The lighter colour upstairs is Dulux Surfmist. The darker colour downstairs is Dulux Beige Royal. Quality depends on the SM. My first SM was really good. My second SM has lower standard but has gone on holiday so final PC fix and handover will be done by CM. Hopefully CM has higher standard. Haven't met him yet. I got wet area tiling from M. I am getting laminate for main flooring after handover. Gosh it seems like these supervisors never stay till the end. There's always someone leaving either the consultant, csc, supervisors. We even had it when we were building this house we are currently in. Our supervisor left a couple of weeks before hand over. I think they got rid of him. And he was really good. We even had our first csc leave with this build. viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: Our Metricon Merricks 38 130Jun 18, 2017 1:21 am Mt.view The end result looks very promising. specially those big awning windows at the back and the stacker door with corner post removed. congrats on handover! For the staircase , our current timber stair got some sort of treatment but it gets insanely slippery when it get wet. I`d think twice to get them treated. Thanks Mt.View. Here's my thought on lighting: 1. Batten vs Downlight from M - M charged $110 for 11W LED downlight and $64 for batten holder. A good LED downlight from Australian retailer will cost $20 and sparky will charge about $15 to covert the batten to LED downlight (fix a surface socket, drill hole, switch batten to downlight, and plaster/paint the batten hole). All up you will save $10 per light. So you will save up to $300 if you have 30 lights (which happens if you follow Stratus recommendation to place light every 3 meter). $300 is not worth the pain of taking batten and converting to LED after handover. However, the economics worked well for me. I like bright room so placed light every 1.5 meter so have 100 light in my entire house. Plus I bought the LED downlight during Boxing Day so got them for $15. This meant I save $15 to get batten from M and covert to LED after handover. With 100 lights, that gives me a saving of $1500. 2. Saving electricity - As I placed light every 1.5m, I bought 9W LED instead of 11W. Each light is less brighter at 9W but wouldn't be able to tell the difference at 1.5m apart. Furthermore, M doesn't charge for wall switches. So I connected 2-3 light per button. This means I can turn ON just the light I need in the room while leaving the rest OFF. 3. Downstairs vs Upstairs - I placed all the batten that I need downstairs as access is limited downstairs. It's harder to add lights downstairs after handover. I got half the lights I needed upstairs as Sparky can add more by getting into the roof. I was afraid sealing the stair would make it slippery. I need to research the stair a bit more. I will visit M's display home this weekend to see what they have. I don't remember seeing footprints on their stairs in the display homes. We will probably end up with the same solution as yours. Great tips. the dust you see on the staircase might just be dust from plaster which is always a pain to deal with. Its a fantastic idea! Did M arrange that or? Got the groove because we got under mounted sink. Above mount sink has built in Stainless steel drainer but it ruins the look of ceaserstone. M charged $350 to cut 5 grooves.
