For our build I got free samples from Caesarstone, Laminex (& Formica), Colorbond and Polytec. Also if your builder uses a retail outlet for the tile selections (ours use Beaumont Tiles) head down to a local store and ask to see their standard range before your actual appointment, most showrooms have full size samples available for clients to take home.
