Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 14, 2016 2:14 pm Hi, I have an essa stone bench top in bone white. It was installed in March 2016 and in May I hit the edge with a bone china plate (which didn't break or crack or chip!!!) and took a thumb nail size piece of stone out of it. A couple of days later my husband hit the edge with a glass and took another huge chip out of it - again the glass didn't break, crack or chip and it was not hit with any force. When we installed it we were told it was diamond tough!!! Laminex refused to do anything about it and we have had to have it repaired. I noticed that someone commented on the fact that Laminex has now pulled their entire selection of Essa stone. Has anyone else had problems with their stone? Can anyone confirm that Laminex pulled the range? I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has had any issues. Cheers Re: Essa Stone bench tops 2Nov 15, 2016 12:10 pm Hi, I don't have an essa stone bench yet so I can't comment on the quality. However I can confirm that they replaced their entire range earlier this year, about April I think. At the time I heard different stories so I'm not sure what the real reason was. Maybe talk to a stone mason and see what they think. If they work with essa stone they're bound to know what the change was about and if your issues are acceptable or not. Re: Essa Stone bench tops 4Jan 24, 2017 5:47 pm I don't know if this post is too old, but I work for Laminex and can shed some light. This is what I was told last year: the supplier in Italy refused to sell Laminex any more product because they wanted to be the sole supplier. Laminex are now using multiple suppliers so they can offer a more diverse range. It wasn't about quality. It's not because the stone was too brittle. I agree with the last comment, edges that are more rounded are less likely to chip. I've had Essastone installed in my kitchen for 5 years with no chipping (yet). It has a 3mm radius pencil edge. Unfortunately there's no warrantee against chipping, unless there's genuinely a fault in that batch of stone. It does happen from time to time and it's quite random. The process is to go through the stonemason anyhow. They are the ones who need to make the claim. If you want some compensation, I would push harder at the stonemason.
