Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After 😀 2368Sep 13, 2017 10:02 pm You've had a huge year and recent illness so it's very normal to feel like this. A big adjustment. New home, new location. Take some time to reflect on how amazing your achievement is to have your own house and have tackled the builder and all the decisions on your own. I'm very impressed with how you've handled all the challenges. When you are ready and as the weather gets better, see if a friend will come and stay over on Friday nights and help you explore your new area. Or think about seeing a counsellor at your local community health centre so you have someone who you can talk about your worries with who is outside your circle. Great you are adding to your maintenance list. And listing all your questions. If you are unsure if you will trust builder's answers and you haven't used one consider having a private inspector come to walk through with you before maintenance inspection. Especially brick work concerns etc. they can tell you what is normal, meets standards etc. and reassure you when you are worried about things that aren't a problem. Good that your timber step under door has the black plastic. It protects the timber. See if builder will fix at maintenance before your do yourself. Take care of yourself Your house looks amazing. Congratulations Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2369Sep 13, 2017 10:21 pm Thanks Mars. Its my 30th birthday in two months, trying to think of something fun to do but can't get motivated. My original plan was to go to Hawaii but the house kind of put that on hold till next year as I need to do some serious saving!! Maybe I'll just go on a mad shopping spree for the house I am still loving the cushions I got from Super Amart!! I wish I loved all my other choices that much. Maybe Ill get a puppy P.. okay Im not going to get a puppy. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2370Sep 14, 2017 1:12 pm Well I emailed the builder a picture of the shower drain, was showing someone at work the photo and they said they knew someone with a similar issue and water got into the slab, the person had to move out for 3 months while the whole thing was fixed... so just in case I've let them know but hopefully its not a major issue like that. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2371Sep 14, 2017 2:34 pm So had Tint a Car come through and give me a quote on tinting some of my windows. I asked for a lighter tint on the dining room sliding door, living room window, kitchen window and laundry sliding door, and a darker tint on the master bedroom window. All up quote is $1,384 which is quite a bit higher than I expected, but makes sense. I think that will have to go on the back burner, will see how bad the heat is this summer first... I just like the idea of not having the sun lighten the floor tiles but I can't afford that, was hoping for more around $600. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2372Sep 14, 2017 4:09 pm Been busy today. The builder came over to look at the drains, he said it wasn't an issue...I think he misunderstood me on the phone, he thought the drains were backing up (which they aren't). Well anyways, he's had a look now. Also had a guy come to give me a quote on decking the porch, if we go ahead with decking the porch will definitely change the design of the pavers we are laying... just waiting for the final price, hoping its under $1000. I'm WFH, and unfortunately everyone kept turning up when I had phone meetings *Facepalm* Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2373Sep 15, 2017 8:11 pm Need your opinion guys! I have got a quote to deck this front porch area for $1375, is this cheap? reasonable? expensive? The price is for supply and install of Merbau decking to the porch only. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The other issue is the paving.. So the plan is to pave from the front foot path up to the porch. Originally we were going to pave the front porch area too, but we changed our mind (hence decking is one option), the other option is to just paint the porch or to pave it in a different type of paver.. The big issue though is the way the pavers come up to the porch..You can see here that's a lip on the middle blocks.. so paving the porch will be a pain!! And even decking.. I'm thinking we should not put blocks across the front of the porch, and just have the step either start from the top of the concrete or the bottom.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ If we start from the top, and we went with decking.. decking would be 55mm above the concrete, so would be a slight step.. or if we went from the bottom, would be 90mm from step to top of decking..My big concern is hiding the edge of the porch and the crappy rendering on the porch pillars at the bottom.. Also what do you think of this pattern? So 2 one way, 2 the other.. the top step will be extended so its and even set of 4... but the next step down will have one short.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This shot shows the front of the porch more..garden bed is going in between the pavers and the driveway. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Heres another shot... so not sure what to do about the porch step down to the pavers, and whether to have the blocks across the front or not. So hard! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Really not sure about the $1375.. seems a lot, I was hoping for a little cheaper.. just want the front finished off nice. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2374Sep 15, 2017 8:30 pm I think because your sick, your run down a bit after the roller coaster ride of the build. You just need to give it some time and settle in. Is there any local groups you can join in your community so you can meet some people locally? Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2375Sep 15, 2017 8:59 pm I agree. I've been really sick, still not a 100%.. so I'm trying to take it easy this weekend. Not really any local groups that I have found, but thinking I can maybe join a gym or outdoor exercise group to start with.. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After 😀 2376Sep 15, 2017 9:13 pm Not an expert, but is that merbau deck going to be natural? I'm just concerned about the elements...if you get rain that's going to fall sideways like at a slant, it will weather quicker? You can always stain it every 6-12 months of course but who likes doing that! I just restained my merbau side gate about 3 or 4 months ago. I would have been moved in about 8 months and it was already pretty faded Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast Viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406[/quote] Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After :) 2377Sep 15, 2017 9:19 pm That was always my big concern with decking, which is why I went with aluminium slats for the gate and fence, and pavers for the front path.. I wanted to pave the porch too, but the big pavers don't suit.. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Custom Build - Ever After 😀 2378Sep 15, 2017 9:24 pm Can you get a quote for Eco deck?
