Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1861Jul 26, 2017 8:13 pm On a side note, got a quote to seal my driveway for $500ish. Pretty happy with this. The guy is super amazing with his customer service, and from his FB his work is top notch too. Might also get him to do my turfing.. and hoping he has someone he can pass me along to for the front paving. My dad will be miffed if I go with a professional for the paving, but I'm so stressed about him trying to do a stepped paved path, as he's got no experience. D Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1862Jul 27, 2017 5:36 am Well after googling the word miffed lol....yes I would be totally Miffed about the rent https://www.homeone.com.au/member/bribiebell Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1866Jul 27, 2017 6:21 pm Now that I'm home, can give a full update... So I called the builder today hoping to confirm handover for 12pm on 4 August 2017... He was quick to answer, but couldn't confirm that handover would happen next Friday, in fact he seemed quite unconfident about it ;-; He said the painter is sick, so hasn't been back to do the touch ups (he was sick before my PCI which is why they weren't done before PCI). And he hasn't had anyone in to do any of the other finishing touches or fixes... Heartbroken again. Looking unlikely that I will be moving in next week... I just don't understand, there were 5 people painting my house the first time round, surely not ALL of them are sick.. and sick for two weeks?? Plus this is just touch ups not the whole house. Plus, why can't they have done any of the other issues, like fixing the brick, and such?? Or do the site clan..?? Just something.. He did mentioned that the colorbond things that go over the top of the external doors was ordered yonks ago, but no one knows where its at.. so he's following up on that. Just so annoying.. so gawd knows when I'll be moving in!! So frustrating.. as I've booked everything for that week. I guess there's still hope, but not feeling confident when we are a week out from supposed handover and he can't confirm anything!! And of course, after next Friday I go back into workshops at work and can't have time off for two weeks, so when the heck will I do handover and move then???? Just so angry, sad, frustrated.. I am completely freaking out and annoyed at myself for ever thinking anything could go right.. its like I dont learn anything. *sad* Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1867Jul 27, 2017 6:24 pm He did say he was fine for us to start coming on site to do landscaping.. and possibly I could still do handover next Friday and they would just keep fixing things (but I know how that story goes!!!).. although I can't move in till at least the painting and cleaning is done. If I don't move in next weekend then it will instantly cost me $600... ;-; Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1868Jul 27, 2017 6:57 pm Really hope they pull their fingers out of their arse and you get handover next week. Your build has been the biggest roller coaster, I don't know how you have manage to not go crazy or totally grey, I would have lost my s##t a long time ago. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1869Jul 27, 2017 7:17 pm I have my moments... I sometimes just want to get down on the floor and throw a toddler tantrum.. I'm actually thinking of calling their receptionist tomorrow to find out my official start date and to enquire about penalties.. if they can't deliver, why should I keep wearing the costs?? I let it go because they covered the $1k council levy and never invoiced me for it (well I assume they paid it ). But its probably about 8-9 weeks over now, and at $250 a week!! Thats more then the 1k that might invoice me for if I push it.. I wanted to pick up the bank cheque on Saturday, but if handover is going to be delayed, I might as well use the extra time to get the cheque changed to take out the penalty. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1870Jul 27, 2017 7:27 pm Found my original post about the penalties.. I'd worked out that my construction period ended 27/5 if my start date was 23/9... which means as of next weekend we are 9 weeks over. 9 weeks at $250 a week = $2,250.... So, they owe me $2,250 in penalties. Even if they try to claim additional delays due to my variations.. (which they shouldn't be able to because they didn't include those IN the variations themselves), what can they claim, 2 weeks, 3?? And even if they then decide to charge me for the $1k levy... I still should come up a little ahead. But mostly I hope if they think theyre about to lose a few grand they might hurry up and finish!!! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1871Jul 27, 2017 7:56 pm Get your penalty money Dawn.... they have not done the right thing by you and they should pay - your entitled to it! It might just make them hurry the hell up too! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1874Jul 27, 2017 8:52 pm Yep i agree with everyone else. Might make them hurry up if they know it's going to hurt their bottom line. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1877Jul 27, 2017 10:07 pm I will at least try to raise it with them tomorrow, but thinking of going through the receptionist instead of the builder. Hopefully I don't chicken out.. I get so nervous with these sort of things. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1878Jul 28, 2017 8:36 am Definitely claim it; it's yours due to their incompetence. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1879Jul 28, 2017 7:19 pm Another long day on the phone. Called the builder's admin first, asked about a start date... they couldn't give me one, suggested I ask the builder instead, okay. Then asked about penalties, and was again directed to the builder. So then I rang the bank to find out if the cheque would be ready for me to pick up tomorrow. They said no worries, just call the local branch.. and I asked them about changing the amount (for the penalties) and the lady said to me they wouldn't do it, because I had already verbally given authority to pay the invoice, but if I ABSOLUTELY needed it done to call them immediately, but it would take a few weeks to go through the process. Eeek!! So I'm planning to just get the cheque for the full amount, and work out the penalties another way... so then I rang the local brach, nope no cheque *facepalm* Good thing I'm not in a rush. So have had to arrange the cheque AGAIN... hopefully can pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. So then I called the builder. Had a few things to discuss, we chatted about changing electricity and gas to my name, so seems pretty straightforward. In regards to handover, still no idea... he is still waiting on the painter to come in and do the touch ups. ;-; Really hoping for Friday next week, but I just don't know if it is going to happen. Also found out the alarm system is going to cost me $600 (variation coming my way). That's pretty good, as he originally quoted me $800-900, but no idea if they put in the pet immune system I asked for, will find out once I move in. And finally I asked about the penalties, he said he didn't know and would have to look at the contract. I told him I thought it was about 9 weeks at $250 a week. So I've asked him to go away and work out what they think the penalties are, and come back to me. He did try to say that the gas delayed them about 4 weeks... but I'm not sure that counts, because they already claimed ALL their delay days... I would have understood more if they tried to claim additional delays for the variations. I have thought about it, and I've decided if they give me the alarm system for free, I'll probably let it go at that, but we shall see what they end up offering me. I cant change the cheque amount easily now, so need to pay them in full, and then get the penalties in cash? cheque? bank deposit? ... or nothing? Anyways, we'll see how it goes. The builder was pretty good about it all. I'm feeling a bit better, I'm proud of myself for actually asking about it... Don't think we will go down to the house this weekend, but who knows... I do need to go to the storage unit and drop more stuff off though XD Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1880Jul 28, 2017 7:28 pm Sounds like a buzy day but at least you got some things sorted outn https://www.homeone.com.au/member/bribiebell I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15276 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
