I have a feeling we may be in the same boat as there were some provisions for re-survey etc in our contract which were not required so therefore this amount does not need to be paid! I will be interested to see how it all turns out! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1846Jul 26, 2017 8:46 am Yay for extra money! I have about $7k extra in mine too. $1.9k was leftover from the land (I guess because I paid more of a deposit on the land than they needed me too? Or maybe the transfer fees or conveyancing fees were less than my broker had allowed for? They immediately put that back into my loan account and it paid for the first 2.5 mortgage repayments Then in my build contract they put in $5k for possible retaining or piering costs, and I didn't end up incurring any. I'm glad I remembered these, as the accounts lady sent me the invoice for the final progress payment yesterday, and didn't take the $5k off. So when mortgage broker pays the last payment to them, there will be some money left over and they'll deposit that back into my account too. Yay for leftover money! Mine is going to aircon and furniture and blinds I think Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1847Jul 26, 2017 12:11 pm Re the bins, double check, I know Casey council has a reduced fee for a smaller main bin, but you do have to search a bit to find it. I feel like you aren't Casey council, but maybe there's something similar? Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1848Jul 26, 2017 12:24 pm Omg I just started getting notifications again and had to catch up on 5 pages hahaha. So so close now! With the extra money have they taken off your expenses for going over contract time maybe? Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1849Jul 26, 2017 5:55 pm The little bit extra has definitely taken some stress off me. I'm not sure what I will use it for yet, might just keep it there as a back up for the first month for unexpected costs. Yeah, there were reduced fee for a small bin, but only $15 difference between the bigger and smaller bin, so will just go bigger. Haha... omg 5 pages!! You poor thing. Nah, the funds are not related to the going over contract, they are definitely something to do with the land. I think probably due to overpayment of my land deposit... either way happy to have them DD Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1850Jul 26, 2017 5:57 pm Don't know if I mentioned... but at my PCI, I pointed out the installed alarm system and the builder was like "oh yeah, I sent through the variation already didnt I and youve settled it"... SO TEMPTED TO SAY 'YES', but I did own up and say 'No, not yet'. Will be interesting to see if I end up getting an invoice to pay XDD would be nice if they forgot!! I need to stop following new builds on H1 XD I did say I would stay through everyones builds that I'm already following, but I need to stop picking up new ones. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1851Jul 26, 2017 7:12 pm Feeling grumpy ;-; Backstory... when I moved home to save for a house I started paying my parent rent/board... no worries. When I decided to build a new house, my parents told me that they would not ask me to pay rent to them while I was paying the mortgage (so from land settlement).. cool. My land settled, but my parents still expected me to pay the rent but fine.. I did. Thankfully I'd had a few promotions and was better positioned by then to handle the mortgage and the rent. So back to present.. I'm moving in two weeks.. and so I didn't pay rent this fortnight (actually I just forgot ), but straight away my mum is asking me "wheres your payment"...and I was thinking "but... its like two weeks, would it kill you to let me off"... and she was like "I know I'm horrible, but I need it".. my dad has been out of work for a few weeks and they had some big bills at the start of the year, so I thought okay no problem and I paid them. Even though I'm starting to struggle myself with all the handover bills popping up. Anyways, chatting to my mum today and she told me she has HEAPS in savings (more then me!!). So I'm a little miffed... Do I have a right to be miffed? I just feel like I'm your kid, shouldn't you help me a little.. They promised to give me 1k for my house warming present about 6 months ago, but they are useless with money so I've never counted on it.. in fact I was just thinking "just give me a month off the rent instead"... its weird to pay them rent and for them to turn around and give me money??? *Sigh* I don't know why these things always shock me. These are the same people who when they were told they had to vacate their rental, demanded I give them my house savings for them to buy a house (with no mention of paying me back!!). Thankfully they didn't end up having to vacate so I got to use my deposit on my own house. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1853Jul 26, 2017 7:23 pm Family and money is always a tricky combination, but I'd be a bit miffed to be told it was needed only to find it actually wasn't. Right there with you. You can do what you want, when you want, without fear that someone will sell the house out from under you. Not long to go! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1857Jul 26, 2017 7:57 pm Yep, time to get out of there for sure! I always thought parents were supposed to help their kids (not rely on them), but I guess in this current economic climate it's not always possible. Still I would be peeved you had to pay rent when your Mum actually has more money than you... that's a bit rough! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1858Jul 26, 2017 7:59 pm aloenyx I just can't wait to be in my house and not be beholden to them anymore. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1860Jul 26, 2017 8:10 pm Haha Bank...
