Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 4Jul 16, 2016 5:56 pm Well I guess you would need it to open if you do not intend to install a quality range hood. I also thought about making it open as decided against it. I would think the range should do the job. I wanted light and hence the fixed window. Ask your misses to look at how many people have tile or glass splashbacks that don't open. Same principle as a window except you have a bit of a rebate. Good luck convincing the other half. Cheers Mark Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 5Jul 16, 2016 8:35 pm Most kitchens dont have a window above the benchtop. No difference to it being tiles or glass splashback. Or have 2 smaller awning window on the side if it's not too late. (Eg split your one fixed into into 3 sections, awning, fixed awning). viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 7Jul 17, 2016 11:33 am Good call B43T's. That's exactly what we did except we used 4 panel louvres (700mm wide) either side of a 1500mm wide fixed pain. There is a Qasair rangehood built-in above cooktop. Just saw your blog! House look so good! You've got the double wammy window and qasair! We don't have same window arrangement but have qasair, if I redid my kitchen plan i would of gone like yours! Thank for sharing! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 10Jul 17, 2016 6:40 pm Everyone I know that has a window instead of a splashback has a fixed window. I personally don't see a problem with it & think they look just stunning. If you open it, you will need flyscreens then you will have scteen on your lovely feature window & joins for where the window slides open. I would personally leave it fixed. Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 12Jul 17, 2016 10:21 pm I agree with both of you Pink and Noelle and I believe it looks great also thats why I went for it originally. You think the rangehood is enough or should I add an exhaust fan in the drop down ceiling Or just leave everything be hope for the best lol. Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 13Jul 18, 2016 2:44 am I rangehood should externally vent and I think is the same as an exhaust fan. If you have induction then the way they generate heat is different from gas and electric. The qasair units are good and can be concealed. We were always going with a concealed unit but initially looked at gas cooktops. Qasair brought out the Westmore that is meant to be for induction. they have single and twin motor units if thats any help. Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 14Jul 18, 2016 7:38 am Thanks everyone! All replies seem to return back to the qasair unit. Most logical thing to do then is wait and see how we go with this blanco rangehood and if no good upgrade to a qasair down the track Re: Is a FIXED window in the kitchen practical? 15Jul 18, 2016 9:57 am Check the specs of the blanco unit and compare extraction rates.
