Perhaps use two pieces of mdf or plywood cut to size so each piece is half the width of the bed - or place them horizontally if that works better for you. MDF is available in 2700 x 1200mm, so buy two and cut each to half the width of the bed and its exact length. Bunnings will cut these materials to width and length, just provide measurements.
