Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 2Apr 08, 2016 7:02 pm Have those posts already been concreted in the ground? Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 3Apr 08, 2016 7:14 pm As Matt indicates. . . if some of the uprights aren't concreted in they could be better aligned. There are some details here: http://anewhouse.com.au/2013/06/retaini ... l-details/ Probably the best way to get level is set one sleeper level and work from that. Once you have the bottom row in you can work on getting a fall for the aggi drain. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 4Apr 08, 2016 7:27 pm Yes they are already concreted in they should be relatively straight used a string line perhaps the leanback may be slightly varied on each post as I just used a spiral level and my eye. All in all shouldn't matter to much as where my concrete sleepers slot in there is 10-15mm play. Maybe your talking about the tops of the post being not aligned that's ok that's what an angle grinder is for I couldn't get the right heights bunnings out of stock so I had to use some high ones. Can I add 20mm bluestone on the bottom to get me level right then lay the pipe? Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 5Apr 08, 2016 7:41 pm If you won't have a path on the downside I would definitely look to bed the sleepers on bluestone. If you are going to have a path you may need to seal the bottom as you don't want water seeping under the path. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 6Apr 08, 2016 8:00 pm Im planning on having a concrete pad coming right up to the retaining wall to stick a spa on in the future. Concreter was just going to have the foam backing up against the gal posts and go right up to them so what should I do what do you mean by sealing it. If its only garden it doesn't matter if water seeps through the bedding bluestone If you don't want that you need to seal it by packing clay under the sleeper or bedding them on mortar. So if I have concrete coming right up to the wall and I use blue stone bedding will I have issues?> Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 9Apr 09, 2016 7:20 pm Hi One Home Forum Peoples So I put in a big day today although I don't feel like I achieved much. I seem to have most of the sleepers level some are out by a smidgit but nothing worth noting. I just used the soil I chopped out of the wall pretty clayey soil so I got my level right and then wet the wall. Tomorrow is geofabric and 20mm bluestone Im just scared on this part and getting my level right? How should I do this step gravel then geofabric or geofabric then gravel? I have a little bit of road base also so I was going to chuck this behind the sleepers. My biggest worry is getting the level right can any one give me some tips please. http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6117_zpsrkpy5xap.jpg http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6116_zpsat3dihie.jpg http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6115_zpsbgg0gqo2.jpg http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6114_zpsohjfriya.jpg http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6113_zpsv0w8hod1.jpg http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6113_zpsv0w8hod1.jpg I noticed when I wet inside the wall some water pooled so where it pooled I covered with a bit more soil, It ended up just keep pooling though no matter how many times I filled, I really don't want to stuff the agpipe up and I want awesome drainage. Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 10Apr 09, 2016 8:10 pm What I was going to say was if the posts weren't concreted in already then you'd be better off taking them out, placing the bottom layer of sleepers, levelling them and then placing the posts between them. Then you fill the holes with concrete up to the bottom of the sleepers and this becomes the footing. No matter, I've done like 55m of walls without doing this (so the same as you). What I worked out was: * Level the first sleeper, then place another sleeper on top, check the level again * Then get the second sleeper roughly level * Get a string line, wrap one end around a brick * Put the brick in the middle of the 1st sleeper and wrap it around a post (go 1 post past the end of the next bay) * Put another brick on top of the 1st sleeper against the post with the line underneath it (so the line is as close as possible to the stop of the sleeper) * Put a line level to the line and adjust the end around the post till it's level. * Measure the distance between the string and the top of your first sleeper. You're looking for the height of your sleepers at both ends i.e. if they are 150mm sleepers you want to see 150mm at each end + have the bottom sleeper level. * If it's not level, lift bottom sleeper out, adjust the ground and repeat. Re the ag line. Just make sure the outflow end is lower than the other end and there's no major dips in the line. The water will do the rest. Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 12Apr 09, 2016 10:27 pm I put a thin layer of gravel down 1st, then place the fabric in a U shape with the ag line at the bottom. Then shovel gravel over the top. Fold the fabric over once the pocket is nearly full. I then covered that with more gravel so the dirt wasn't directly touching the fabric. Re: RETAINING WALL HELP PLEASE 14Apr 10, 2016 7:10 pm So I followed all the instructions best I could im just worried about the fall I couldn't seem to get it going downhill easily. I spent all day trying to sort it which made me angry lol 1. I placed about 20 to 30mm off gravel above the clay. 2. I placed the geo fabric in a u shape as instructed 3. I put the socked agline down and ran a 1 metre spirit level over the top of the pipe in spots I swear it was running uphill probably very minimal will this have any detrimental effect? I had very good fall for the first 4-5 metres then the next 10 metres is a bit sketchy minimal uphill maybe then the last 5 metres good downhill flow. 4. About 100mm from the top I wrapped the excess geo fabric over the gravel and then placed another 30mm of gravel on top, I then covered with soil approx 60mm - 70mm. I tried throwing a blasted hose down the aggy before I laid gravel all over it so see if my fall was ok was unsuccessful it just drained the water over the gravel at the bottom im hoping this is because it wasn't fully covered in gravel. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5141 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2629 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16105 |
