Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 430Apr 27, 2017 7:57 pm We're going to contact head office again tomorrow coz we sold our house on the impression from our ss that our house will be complete by end of April. We are now going to have to live with my parents and shift everything into a storage unit. Im just over their incompetent tradies who keeps stuffing things up. They still havent even begun to fix the living room, bedroom 1 and kitchen spashback window, which requires moving as they are in the wrong position. Our laundry door has a massive gap at the bottom about 30mm more than the standard. Our stacker door has been installed incorrectly and the tracks are being completely scratched. One of our external door is swinging the wrong way. The tiling around our ensuite niche is done poorly and there's raised tiles. One of the back panel on the island bench has a small hole in it. Some walls and cornices are bowed. The vanity sink hasnt been installed correctly. Now the mirror in the bathroom. Our plaster in the garage hasn't been properly nailed down and can be pushed. Our planter box is missing a course of brickwork. They gave us rolled mortar instead of flush. Several plumbing stuff ups which they had to cut into our slab and we still yet to see the engineers report which our inspector requested. They didnt waterproof wc and laundry after being advised that it needs to be. There's a hump in our roof and lots of roof tile debris left in the gutter which can block the pipes. They haven't graded away the soil so water is pooling around the slab. They haven't put flashing in a few spots in the roof so parts of the roof is exposed. Our alfresco pillar is not straight. A few windows is not leveled. All i can say is make sure you know your plans and check everything. We've had a lot fixed along the way but these are the ones on my priority list. Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 431Apr 27, 2017 7:58 pm rattleAU Feel so bad for you rtforresters. So much of your money, time and feelings are invested in this and it would be horrible. Really do wish you the best of luck with moving forward and getting things sorted. In regards to your question the other day, we are building the Devonport 363. Hopefully we'll get a good bunch of tradies and supervisor who is on top of things. We are a very regional build and quite a distance away from everything, so hopefully they'll try to get it all right the first time, as it will cost them to come back to the build for fixes each time. This is our 3rd time building and we were victims of the Avonwood Builders going bust about 18 years ago, so we are no strangers to stress and things not being as they should. Fingers crossed on a good experience this time around. I wish you all the best for your build. Im just the unlucky few that this happens to Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 432Apr 28, 2017 1:09 pm rtforresters rattleAU Feel so bad for you rtforresters. I had no idea your list was still so long. What compensation do you get if they go over time? I'm sure it won't cover your costs or emotional stress. As an aside, we are loving our house! Still waiting on a couple of fixes but nothing major. Ducted heater is very loud. It won't even cover the rent that we now have to take up. I have heard about their heaters being loud. We got a credit for it and will be installing one post build. Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 434May 06, 2017 11:06 pm Just found out the other day when i was getting security screen and flywire screens fitted that they need to build extra tracks for boutique sliding doors. So if you are considering having the boutique sliding doors and want security screens on them, you can't do it or you need to tell DFH what you intend on doing and they need to build the wall out. Also, if you want security screens on pivot doors, this is also additional costs as they need to build a new frame Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 435May 06, 2017 11:13 pm Any news with you Lenz? We have boutique sliding doors on 2 sides of the alfresco (double glazed) and there was no mention of this when we said that we will put security screens on ourselves later. We are also putting a security screen on the front door later. Just sent off our signed estimate on Friday. Looks like I'm making a call on Monday. Thanks for the heads up. Yeh, no one told us this as well so im not sure what we're gonna do now. Ive attached a pic of the outside of the sliding door and the brickwork. As the boutique doors are quite large, it doesnt leave much for the new tracks to sit on so it will stick out. I had 2 separate companies come out to tell me the same thing Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 438May 09, 2017 4:47 pm Thanks for the heads up! We had no idea either. We are also having 2 sets of boutique doors and a laundry slider to which we were going to add security doors and we were advised to do it post handover as it is much cheaper! No mention whatsoever about needing an extra track etc! How frustrating RT. No news from us still. Meanwhile the house we are knocking down (in which we are still living) must have caught wind of our plans cos one by one, things are starting to fall apart and need attention! Hopefully not too much longer and in the meantime, hopefully the woeful bandaid solutions will get us through! I wish we didn't get the boutique sliding doors now coz they were an additional cost too. If i had known id probably just go with the standard. It's always the way lenz. We had the same drama when selling our house.
