Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 07, 2015 10:51 am Went away for a couple of weeks at end November and when we returned the "lawn" looks dead. I am convinced would be much better to pull it up and replace with pebbles/gravel or similar, which would fit in nicely with my "minimum maintenance" time in life. The area in question is about 6.5m x 4m with minimal foot traffic. Any thoughts on : - replacing the lawn with pebbles or gravel or rock, - Would a particular sized pebble be visually appealing over that sized area, - what colour is more likely to maintain its appearance with weathering etc. - Sand based soil with no water "pooling". - Are we likely to have a weed or grass problem, and can it be controlled. Appreciate all comments/thoughts. Re: Replacing the lawn ? 3Dec 07, 2015 4:06 pm Thanks Stewie, yes that is one option I have thought about, leaning towards the pebble option at this stage but everything still being considered. A bit of a shame that we cant have time away without installing an automated watering system as I quite like the look of a grassed area, life I guess. Re: Replacing the lawn ? 4Dec 09, 2015 2:22 pm What grass was it? None of the warm season grasses would die in 2 weeks.. They might brown off a touch if it was super dry/hot but certainly not fully die off. Re: Replacing the lawn ? 5Dec 09, 2015 4:37 pm Can't remember the brand/type exactly, but a cheaper version of "Sir Walter" is ringing a bell. You could well be right that the lawn is in fact not dead, but it sure looks b/awful. I believe we had some quite hot weather during our break (some small shrubs are brown/dead looking as well). The pebble option wins hands down, particularly as we want to have a bit more away time. I get a lot of enjoyment sitting down with a glass of red and watering the lawn in the cool of the evening, but if we are not here... I'll be sitting somewhere else and the lawn will be deteriorating more. 2 8358 Yes, get a builder, make sure he is experienced and a registered building practitioner 5 8960 Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement.
