Browse Forums Building A New House Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 863Jul 27, 2017 9:23 pm charlibear Looks awesome sweets!!! Are you not allowed to go inside with trades on site? I want to see your stone I know all my trades by name and they know mine when I'm on site Nope they seem to have put the fear of god in them. We have tried with a couple of them but they adamant that they're not allowed to let us onsite unless they call the SS and get him to come as well . The chippy didn't even acknowledge that I was there today, some at least ask if it's my house. The trades next door at PD are friendlier, sometimes they think that is my house . Absolutely bucketing down tonight and the temp cover that was sort of covering the top of the pier must have blown off in the strong winds a couple of nights ago. Absolutely devo we're not getting our walk through until next Friday. Not sure why, the chippy was finishing inside today then moving outside. He said more scaff is going up tomorrow so that the roof can be finished next week. No resolution on the flashing/box gutter thing, sounds like they're not happy either and have put it back on the plumbers to clarify some stuff. I haven't seen the stone in the daylight yet . I'll send you both a message with more details. Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 864Jul 27, 2017 10:06 pm Ooooh... too bad you cant check it out.. though I must admit, I think I went through at frame (missed slab completely they were so quick)... then I did a walkthrough with my builder in december, which was fixing... (never got the pre plaster walkthrough I was promised).. And then I could only look from outside the house after that as was locked up. Then when I found the bird inside, I discovered the laundry door was being left open, so I went in then, but I told the builder I was rescuing the bird XD Then I got builders permission to be in there while we did the blinds... and then once more I got in through the laundry door.. It was good, I got to keep an eye on things and made PCI easy as I already knew where the main issues were (thankfully not many). Will be good when they fix that roofing issue!! Its the little things that drive you crazy... I'm an analyst in my day job, so the details drive me crazy, plus I'm a crazy organised neat freak perfectionist.. XD So building has been trying. I will never do it again. I will never do it again. I'm already thinking about the next one . Hubby told me last night he's going to need at least a few years to recover . This house is meant to be a long term thing because we love the location, but we'll see. Take out neat freak and you're describing me! I am absolutely loving building though. The problems, inefficiency, and lack of control drives me freakin crazy but I still love it. We've been "building" for over 2.5 years so I'm not sure how I'm going to go when it ends, I can see some depression setting in . JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 866Jul 28, 2017 2:50 pm Another day another mistake . The cladding has arrived and its the wrong one. And from the footpath I can see water in the master again , this time we have skirts to soak it up, yay. I give up. Chippy has been there, the back garage door was on and one piece of eave lining had been done, the bit affected by the roof change , but he must have had a short day because he was no where to be seen. I think about 'next time I'd do..' but I doubt I will ever do it again, even if I have the choice. Too stressful. As much as I want to move in, a part of me wonders what I'll do in a few months without H1 and the house to look forward too P Oh gosh, so many issues! I think in the middle of the build it always feels like that though, more new issues than real progress, but they should fix it all soon. Sometimes I'd glad I'm so far from my house, so I wasn't able to see it too often, I would have gone crazy seeing all the issues. I'm quite proud of how restrained I've been throughout this build. I feel for you ;-; it must be gut wrenching watching all these issues going on. The water in particular would stress me out. Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 868Jul 28, 2017 10:39 pm I probably should stay away! The husband has suggested we stay away once it's locked up. No way I could! I get antsy when I try and skip a day 🤣. I said to him could you imagine how long it would take to rectify all the defects at the end if we weren't finding them before they got hard to fix! Not to mention the ones that would be covered up and never fixed! Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 869Jul 29, 2017 12:19 pm Well that just sux bank! And I agree with Dawn, the water would be stressing me too. Hope that they sort all your issues soon. I won't be able to stay from my build, so I totally get where you coming from... and your totally right about finding the stuff ups early. These builders need us to micro manage them I say! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 870Jul 29, 2017 1:07 pm I completely agree with keeping an eye on the build, I discovered as the brickies were leaving they had used red bricks for a garage pillar as they thought it was going to be rendered. Pointed it out but they left anyway. 6 weeks later it still hasn't been rectified I've also picked up multiple other mistakes, wrong frame position, wrong sliding doors and a few others all now put right but it's hard getting things put right when tradies leave! Our Acacia build - http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=86619 JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 871Jul 29, 2017 1:26 pm We went past this morning to find a tradie working, we got out for a look anyway, staying outside the fence of course, he yells out quite aggressively that we're not allowed on site , yeah yeah we know! We stand around talking for a bit and he comes over and invites us in for a look, what the! So courtesy of a not so nice, nice tradie here are some inside pics. You've been through hell and back, I think your journey has been worse than mine It was nice if him to invite you on site but still why would he yell at you Your bathroom vanities look superb Loving your stone Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 873Jul 29, 2017 2:18 pm We're certainly having a shocker! As long as everything gets fixed in the end! It will be a relief to get the roof sealed up next week. We took the guy some refreshments to say thanks for letting us in (you'd think we were his new best friends now) and he said the plumbers had measured up for the flashings a couple of days ago so he thought it would be soon. He could see that water was getting in so he was going to make a temporary cover for the pier Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 877Jul 29, 2017 10:59 pm Oh wow bank that looks soooo good!!!!! Yay to tradie letting you in hope they get theleak sorted and sealed properly soon!!!! Re: JG King modified Heywood - Kitchen 879Jul 30, 2017 12:36 pm Went back today to get a photo with the front eave lining done today and we're officially locked out! He actually cleaned enough mud out of the door tracks to get the latch to reach! Timber cladding for the front has to be re-ordered, seems the only place it was wrong was the purchase order 🤦♀️. No idea how long it will take, a while I suspect. Roofing plumbers did some of the capping today, still nothing on the pier! Above the laundry at the back of the garage has finally been sealed . I'm yet again surprised it wasn't all done today. Surely we must get the award for longest time to seal a roof . If they're going to go back to measuring one piece at a time again we'll be stuck with them for quite a while yet.
