Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2015 12:48 pm Hi everyone, My partner and I are currently building the Rawson Chifley 32 and we just had our electrical appointment on Wednesday. Now the display home has a beautiful void light. The issue is: they said some new legislation has rolled out about 2 weeks ago which does not allow them to have contractors to do staircase lights and void lights. Not even wiring. Now we want to do the void light after hand over. We would like to be able to control the light from downstairs from the entrance and the bottom of the stairs. We have someone who can install the light the only issue is the wiring. Does anyone know if this is possible after hand over? Or have any solutions to this? We would prefer minimal damage to walls if possible Re: Rawson Chifley Void Light 2Apr 11, 2015 11:17 am does that mean nobody can even have staircase lights at all? sounds strange. we are about to finalize the plans for our rawson build. the annoying thing is that they expect more money - $10k before we even sign the contract for the build. thats $16K all up so far. dont you find that is unsettling? they can put whatever they want in the contract because who is going to pull out if they have already spent that amount of money? Re: Rawson Chifley Void Light 3Apr 11, 2015 4:41 pm If the light is ceiling mounted, get them to keep the switch there, and run the wire to a junction box above the hall next to the void. If they won't do a junction box, then just get them to mount the light above the hall instead. Then move the light post handover. If the light is wall mounted, then get it mounted on the other side of the wall that you want, in whatever other room that is, then the wire is there in the wall ready to go. Not sure if that works? I was told the issue is the headspace clearance requirement on step 4. My builder is proposing shifting the beam 310mm towards the kitchen...I'm… 2 2436 To me, that's what it looks like: poor backfilling and/or compaction. The width is about 1000mm maybe. That conduit in the photo is for the NBN. The water is about… 4 8017 Just started the Build process for Chifley 42 with Rawson homes, will keep you all posted with the Build progress. 0 2416 |
