Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our new home 161Jun 17, 2017 10:33 pm Colour Selection on Monday!!! (third times a charm!) I am super excited for this (like bouncing around the room:-D). The colour room, is kind of like Metricons, where you get to see everything together at once. Unlike the last builder where they had some stuff then you had to go to another shop for other stuff it made it hard to select colours that worked. AND the options I have is greater then I could have asked for! Im sticking with the same colours that I've chosen for the kitchen however everything else i'll have to start fresh. To save money we are having the same stone in the bathroom and ensuite as we have in the kitchen. As we have had to choose bricks all over again due to different brand, we went for a drive to check some colours out this afternoon. I've narrowed it down to two colours. Both of which I quite like, one is a simple plain colour brick and the other is confusing and has multiple colours. GlenfernLike ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is Boral Glenfern. I have found this to be the same everywhere I saw it. It looks good with the darker windows and roof like I want. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This combination of three is Boral Heathwood and as you can see by the different sample photos I have I can't work out what colour it really is. I have seen it on three houses where it looks the same brownish colour and i've seen it on a fourth colour where it looked the grey colour. The two yellower photos kind of look greenish to me. I quiet like the grey version of it too. FYI the photos I've taken a screen shot from either the boral bricks magazine or the PHG magazine and also have received an email with a screen shot along with all the locations its been used from PHG. The online PHG magazine has classed it as a grey coloured brick. Either way it also looked good with dark roof and windows. Do you understand why I find it confusing hahah. What are your thoughts? Has anyone used either of these before (I would love some more photos of Heathwood). Re: Our new home 162Jun 17, 2017 11:58 pm I'm not familiar with either of those bricks but we found all the boral ones we considered to be inconsistent. The glenfern looks nice with the white mortar, it might be a bit flat without that pop maybe?? I think I like the heathwood as long as you're happy with all its possible versions Re: Our new home 163Jun 18, 2017 12:03 am Haha I have liked the 2 different versions I've seen on the houses, as long as it doesn't look that greeny yellow colour id be ok with it hahah. Ive got a couple of other local places to look at both but not a lot of time to do so before Monday. Re: Our new home 164Jun 18, 2017 11:31 pm SO we have decided after our ventures today looking at more bricks/houses we are going to go with Heathwood Boral Brick!! Yay I didn't think DH would like it but he likes it better than the glenfern which I also really like. We went to a display home and they had it and it looked grey again (beautiful, hope ours will look like that!) Ill add a photo... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Haha not the best photo but at least you can see it up close, we walked around all sides of the display home to get different angles of the brick colour. Its really quite nice. So its a bit curved from how I was holding the paper. You will note from last time, the front hall way has changed, the garage and master have flipped and they have put the gap bit at the study instead of at the theatre room. We are going to ask to make this section level. Because instead of increasing the study like I imagined the flip would its decreased it and the theatre (only by 50mm and less), so want to gain it back. See how we go tomorrow. Got a list of things to discuss and colours to pick out! Yippee!! Monument roof, gutters, render and windows Surfmist fascia, porch roof bit, door and garage door. Not sold 100% on the monument we did want a dark window and roof, hope this isn't too dark? What do you guys think? Does it come out black and dark or does it come out a nice grey and not too dark. We also looked at woodland grey but it kind of blended in too much with the brick and was a little greenish with the brick?? Re: Our new home 168Jun 19, 2017 3:24 pm I love monument windows! They definitely don't come out harsh like black can. That was the one external colour we went in sure about and built the rest around that. I think they look really nice inside and don't throw any particular colour. My inlaws have one of the in between greys, probably woodland because they say it is a bit green and hard to decorate with, they don't seem very happy with it. Re: Our new home 169Jun 19, 2017 4:00 pm Bank, I meant more the roof then the windows. The windows I quite like too!
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the kitchen splashback I chose! Funnily enough we were both adament in having the glass splashback!! But I was prepared to look at tiles to save money and this I quite like. What do you guys think? The marble is quite sparce the other tile they had to look at only had one bit of grey in it so it's not overly marbled so hopefully we don't get too many of those pieces otherwise it would be like we just got a white tile haha For a reminder in the kitchen: Stone bench top in Zinc by Essastone Battalion for the base cupboards and Ghostgum for the top cupboards Re: Our new home 170Jun 19, 2017 4:20 pm For the living spaces we chose vinyl planks. This is Harmony Living 'feature oak'. It didn't look this yellow in real life as in the square sample. This is a 'photo' of it against the kitchen colours and probably resembles the colour we saw today. The darker is a lower category we would get money back for but then i'd upgrade the underlay, its hard wearing, DH likes this colour better and its a bit darker then then the tile. This one seemed to have no colour variation it was the same colour anyway you rubbed it The lighter is included, I tried it with the regular underlay and its still quite nice and cushy, its extra hard wearing ( a star higher than the dark colour). Would be same colour/matching colour as the cretement pewter. I prefer this colour, its not to dark and not light so would still hard stains. This one seemed to be lighter and darker when you rubbed it, I don't think it would be as bad as some when vacuumed in different directions?? Both were a twist pile, the lighter being a longer strand by the feel of it, (It felt cushier to touch than the darker). They are both Australian Made. Im waiting on them to hear back from the carpet place to confirm the type of carpet. The lady believed they were both SPF solution dyed nylon. They will also give me the price for the lower category 3 with upgraded underlay vs the standard underlay with included category 4 carpet. There were a few other types to choose from also, there was a carpet made from recycled plastic bags which felt even nicer but was P.E.T and from what I've read SPF nylon/nylon is better and more hard wearing. Cretement Ash white is our front runner for our main floor tile at the moment, if I was picking it from the start I would have considered using the dark in the bathrooms, instead of Haven, so that it matched. Monument is my fav roof colour, but ultimately went with basalt for heat reasons (not that basalt is heaps better). Our roof is pretty flat so we don't see it anyway. Re: Our new home 175Jun 19, 2017 7:32 pm Your choices are lovely. I don't think you will regret the tiled splashback either. That marble tile is georgous. _____________________________ Follow our build with Boutique Homes on Instagram - ourbarcelona_28 Re: Our new home 176Jun 20, 2017 6:26 pm Love your colours... your facade will have some amazing contrast with the monument and surfmist! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: Our new home 177Jun 20, 2017 6:41 pm our monument roof. I would not call it too black , actually a tad lighter than I expected. (put the color swatch up against it in person and it is exact to the swatch.) The hubby wanted to do a time lapse of our build.... I would like it to be more like the top sunny photo, but atleast your other photo isn't too dark, I think perhaps the photo I took made it look black (or super dark atleast), oh well it should be O.K anyway. So onto carpet- they are both solution dyed nylon. If we get the lower catagory carpet and upgrade we save about $150 or so, or we can go with the colour I prefer and standard underlay (which was still better then what we upgraded to with Kings!). We have also had the price for the extended study/laundry area added to our total quote price and we will be keeping it in as it was reasonable. I also had asked about them extending the stone island bench to 1m wide. It will be $250 to do so, but if we do it we will get stone in the laundry 'for free'. I'm not 100% sure on this.. will probably have a think overnight. I really like the wider benches so it will probably stay in! Also had our fans, pendant lights and a couple of special LED lights installed included in price and a couple of things taken out (like the glass splash back) and the quote is pretty much the same price. So once I decide on the carpet. WE are ready for the final drawings, engineering and energy rating information. which will be ready next week if I get an answer to them tomorrow. Re: Our new home 179Jun 22, 2017 9:00 am That's a great price to get your island widened - Hallmark wanted to charge me $1680 to go to 1m wide! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: Our new home 180Jun 22, 2017 9:56 am That is a very good price for the bench, I would jump at that! I keep hearing that it's more important to upgrade the underlay but I think ultimately you have to be happiest with the colour. We ended up with a Cat 1 carpet with upgraded underlay because it was the best colour with our tiles, I would have preferred something softer but I was also limited by the fact that my brain can't handle the ones where you can see where you have vacuumed.
