Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 322Sep 10, 2015 6:45 pm Build finished 18 months ago, say six weeks over estimated completion. Mind you this was with a lot of persuasion/arm twisting. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 323Sep 20, 2015 5:41 pm Hi everyone, so my partner and I have signed the contract for the house and land!! yay When I get back from a work trip we will book into a selections appointment. In the mean time, in my spare time, I am playing around with different house external colours. The front of our house will look like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ However I was thinking along the colour scheme similar to this: (the brownish brick) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We dont want to upgrade the bricks unless we have to. Our budget isnt huge. This is our first house together and its really difficult these days, so we are trying to think practically. I was thinking the bricks in caffe latte: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ With a dark grey or darkish roof. It will be colourbond. and maybe creamish garage door and front door?? Im not too sure about the colour of the quoins? -creamish? What are other peoples opinions? Reading through everyone elses forums have been a great use to me Thanks in advance to everyone. I know their standard is a 1/2 or 1.4 strength of the wall colour, but we really want grey walls with white contrasting skirts etc. Does anyone know whether they do it.how much it would cost? $1300 is our allowance to have the skirts and arcs white, our walls are a light grey so will offset the walls nicely, it turned out cheaper this way than to do it ourselves later on Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 326Oct 06, 2015 10:33 pm Damien_Lanni Bobbin Has anyone done white skirtings/aves? Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 328Oct 22, 2015 10:26 pm Could happen any time as depends when carpenter available but def before any cabinetry goes in. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 329Nov 17, 2015 11:10 pm We are at lockup! Earlier in this thread there was quite a bit about long delays with Fairmont builds, I haven’t heard much lately, but it hasn’t been exactly speedy for us. The biggest delay was probably the “dreaded waiting for bricks stage” as mentioned previously by Jonooo, almost 3 weeks. After the bricks were done until lockup there were many days of absolutely nothing happening, which was disheartening. On the positive side, the trades have seemed to be of a reasonable quality. Any theories on why Fairmont is one of the slower builders out there? If just a matter of trade shortages wouldn’t it affect all builders? Maybe they can offer a better price by scheduling the tradesmen more effectively even if it takes longer? Let’s hope our houses are ‘built for life’ and we’re not building for life! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 330Nov 18, 2015 12:33 am Fairmont are one of the lowest cost builders in SA also. I think they don't pay their trades very much - which causes trades to probably prioritise other builders over Fairmont, or have more of a limited pool of tradies to use - causing delays to us! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 331Nov 18, 2015 5:52 am We haven't started our build yet but will be in the early part of next year so will be interesting to see if the time of Year makes any difference. I hear they stick to the same trades for their work to ensure good quality so depending on how much volume of work they have they will get delays, would be frustrating to wait 3 weeks for movement at the site, I hope it's worth it!! Congrats on lockup man1 almost at the finish line!! Congrats on lockup man1 almost at the finish line!! Pretty sure that Fairmont have their own builders/trades. All the ones working on our lot Carpenters etc have Fairmont logos on their hi vis shirts First Home - Fairmont Homes - Vogue - Seaford Heights Vista - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78691 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 333Nov 18, 2015 2:47 pm Interesting, maybe in the housing estates they use more of their own, but I only just saw it for the first time yesterday - a guy with a Fairmont logo on shirt! Footings, brickies and carpenters definitely weren't FM exclusive on ours. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 334Nov 18, 2015 4:44 pm A client of mine contracted for a few of the big builders in Adelaide. I often saw him wearing a shirt with one of their logos on it, but he was not exclusively contracting to that company. I can almost guarantee that the trades are not employees of Fairmont! Fairmont are notorious for making almost all of their staff contractors. Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 335Nov 18, 2015 4:51 pm They have proffered builders and trades but they are still just sub contractors. If you look closely most of the signage on vans are just magnets. At least they are in our area. Shirts and high vis all branded up generally get supplied to sub contractors. From our experience Fairmont have their preferred supplies and much to our disappointment despite being flat out busy didn't hire more or new contractors when our house was being built. It's frustrating but at the same time at least they know the quality. If it helps with planning a timeline or giving you a rough indication our house in Seaford meadows had the 'pad' started and footings dug beginning of December last year. We finally moved in August 13 after fighting and hassling Fairmont a fair bit as the wife was heavily pregnant at the time and we had to be in the house before the baby arrived. I wish we us a bit longer to get defects fixed, mainly the fact the painter who done our house was awful but not had any dramas with anything else so far. I think they know about the delays but can't really or don't want to do anything to fix it. We had periods of up to 6 or 7 weeks where nothing happened. Mainly waiting for brickies, then a tiler and then there was a delay on he painter. Carpenters, plumbers, gyprockers and sparkies seemed the only trades that were done on time. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 336Nov 19, 2015 6:38 pm Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has built with austral Grange bricks and have photos? My partner and I are interested to see some houses with these bricks.
