Will be posting some photos on my page soon Good luck to everyone Building the Newport with Fairmont Homes in SA: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=71292 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 62Nov 02, 2014 11:19 am Awesome news iyeayo! The framing part is so exciting to finally be able to picture what your house looks like! Can't wait to hear how it progresses. We had our internal doors hung/ door frames completed yesterday. PC is two weeks from now for us (laughable!) and we still have not been sent a letter of PC extension as promised, so we are feeling very much in limbo at the moment not knowing a firmer date Fairmont Homes Contract signed: July 2013 Slab: May 2014 Frame: July 2014 Roof: 1/8/14 1st fix electrical: 24/9/14 Gyprock: 29/9/14 Brickwork completed: 6/10/14 Handover: 14/12/14 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 63Nov 04, 2014 3:42 pm Lol! That is so funny Erin. You'd think they will contact you at least for courtesy's sake, but what can we do without our Fairmont I have posted some photos from our build and will appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. Just a simple letter in the mail would suffice- which they said they would do but still haven't. Classic Fairmont, they definitely keep you on your toes! Just looked at your pics- your house is coming along nicely! I would love to build a 2 storey one day! My wife and I are building with Fairmont at Seaford Meadows. We signed up way back in in May and finally have our final builders interview tomorrow. It's no fault of Fairmont though, we only just had land settlement week before last. We are still waiting on final council approval and it sounds like Fairmont are delaying things at the moment, or their independent reviewers are as that's what the council are waiting for. We were originally hoping to at least have a slab before Christmas – but after an almost 8 week delay with settlement we're not 100% hopeful anymore. We are building a custom built house and after looking and getting quotes from a few builders we found Fairmont's standard range and selections to be much better than most builders and the bonuses we got were fantastic, even getting upgraded to 2.7m high ceilings at no charge at the last minute just before we signed our contract. The price was much better than others and we've found the quality of homes that our friends have got from Fairmont even after some years since the build has been great. Since signing the contract however we have found their after sales service to be quite lacking so far, at times it's great but sometimes it's very slow between communications. They could really do with an after sales team, I find it quite unfair to keep hassling the salesman (who was fantastic and really helpful) now after he has done his job and got his sale for the company. We've had so many questions regarding selections and things like that but found it hard to get the answers we were after. Hoping some of the questions will get answered at the builders interview tomorrow – we've had two questions outstanding with them for the last 3 weeks with no answer! We're looking forward to the build and finding out some kind of schedule in the coming weeks, it's just a right pain there is so much delay over the Christmas period. Hopefully it goes well from here on in! I'll definitely keep an eye out in this post to see how other people's builds are going and to keep a heads up on any potential problems we might have along the way. Cheers for starting this up! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 66Nov 11, 2014 10:53 pm Welcome Jonooo!!! You will find a lot of support on this forum especially for those times when things seem to be exploding. Let us know how you go. Had our builders interview today. Only a few little surprises we didn't anticipate and we came out with a relatively lower bill for extras than we anticipated which was a very nice surprise. We were shocked to find out our sales person didn't include costs for adding extra electricity circuits for the house based on the power points we were quoted but the lady we had was kind enough to give us a discount on those things. We also weren't aware that colorbond gutters weren't standard and incurred another cost but it's a cost that was worth it. We did manage to get some answers to questions we had asked a few weeks ago and I was stoked to get a credit for the laundry taps as I found some bargains in bunnings to use instead! Still waiting on fairmonts Indipendent auditor to get the building approvals done so these can be forwarded to the council for final approval. Really disappointed this is taking so long as we had initial approval from the council pending independent review over 2 weeks ago now. Not expecting any action on the block until after Christmas which is disappointing. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 69Dec 16, 2014 9:24 am Power being connected to the mains today. (trenches dug yesterday) Doors are on. Second fix carpentry stuff been sitting on my front lawn for 9 days.. Kitchen scheduled for week starting 12\01 House minus carpet and tiles is due to be done by first week of Feb... that looks very unlikely! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 72Dec 16, 2014 9:48 am Ah right. I'm at seaford meadows, don't see us even getting our slab until end of jan. There are about 35 other fairmont houses in our development. We are expecting painful delays too but hoping that won't be the case. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 74Dec 17, 2014 6:40 pm Hi Jonooo you did good to get ceiling upgrade as a bonus. Ours cost $5.3k for ground floor to 2.7m and $2.8k for 2.6m to upper floor! Good to hear there is progress happening with your lovely Fairmont homes, good luck Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 75Jan 15, 2015 11:28 pm So they finally started our house last Friday by cutting the block. However all that's happened this week is the dumping of 2 piles on our land. One pile of dolomite and a pile of fill from another block. Don't know why they dumped that??? Only thing I can think of is they are going to use it to level the block further. I hope so, I don't want to pay to remove it! Still frustrated with how long it's taking. Other houses all around have been cut, dug and had footings poured this week! Although I'm thinking it could be due to the neighbours contractors having their bricks piled on our land which has been extremely frustrating. They can't seem to keep anything within their own boundary even after repeated complaints to their builder from ourselves. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 77Jan 21, 2015 11:27 pm Hello everyone, I'm building with Fairmont, first time building, very excited about things and pretty happy with Fairmont so far, hopefully anticipated completion date is July. Frame was completed last week. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 78Jan 21, 2015 11:45 pm Seems like so long to wait... Still 6 months after the frame has gone up! Our footings are being finished tomorrow then slab next week. Not sure if I can afford rent and mortgage for longer than until June/July! Might have to move back in with the parents if that's the case. Where are you building st23? Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 79Jan 29, 2015 12:12 pm Hello fellow Fairmont clients, Please people, we humbly need your opinion (as much as possible please) on a pressing issue we are currently having with Fairmont. First, on a positive note, brick work has started on our build and by far I am pretty happy with it. We have had great experience so far with Fairmont until last week when we requested that we will like to employ a building inspector given some issues we discovered as follows: 1. We noticed that Fairmont did not use an wrap/sarking (not sure what it is called exactly) on our frames before bricking as with other builds around us. We thought this is a standard?? When we contacted them, they said we should have asked for it and it is not their job to ask us whether we want it or not . During our builder's interview, I remembered we were asked if we want them to do our tiling/carpet, drive way etc, how is the wrap thing any less important? Please people, should we be worried? 2. We found a few causes for concern - crack in the slab, error in our engineering report which was corrected by hand but no signature and damp mark on the upper floor boards. When we contacted them, they said these were no issue We have now lost our trust in Fairmont and since we are not experts, we have decided to hire a building inspector - ideally before brickwork is completed. They requested that we have to notify them, advised that it may come with additional cost/delays since it was not part of our contract and that it's up to them to approve or deny . Where are our rights to our own project?. We have notified them via email, but they have refused to respond to the email (not even acknowledge it). I sense that they are not happy with this and are likely going to delay their response till brickwork is completed and beyond, which means we wont be able to inspect the frames or brickwork. We have called them a few times and they have been quite rude with their usual 'I-dont-care' attitude . I accept that we should have indicated at the beginning that we intend to use an inspector, but this is our first time building and we did not foresee any problems, now we know better. I and hubby have now aged 10 years in a matter of days given anxieties over the possibility that Fairmont may be hiding something which is why they don't want us to bring in an inspector? Has anyone dealt with similar issues before? I will really appreciate your responses please. We had a delay in brickwork and in order to get a wriggle on they wrapped our house to start the gyprock. Not really a requirement otherwise. No real insulating purposes with that particular type of wrap either. Do you have batts as insulation?
