The oven/microwave tower (to the right) is not quite correct. The cupboards at the top are supposed to be shorter (same height as the silver cupboards adjacent) and everything else is supposed to be moved up, thus allowing a slightly higher drawer at the bottom. That's the only real "mistake" (although we have identified a couple of other changes/additions that we would like if it's possible). What a massive kitchen. So much storage! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Re: KDR with Sekisui - Sydney 567Aug 08, 2015 8:18 am Love how much storage you have! Interesting how they tiled "properly" for you. We had cabinets then tiles for the bathroom which was very weird. Edit: sorry I think you have the same tile issue. There won't be a gap Re: KDR with Sekisui - Sydney 568Aug 08, 2015 8:53 am Thanks guys. It does seem slightly excessive looking at it in-situ, but I'm sure we'll find a way to fill most of those drawers and cupboards Yvonne - I'm hoping they will be moving the cabinet out of the bathroom and tile everything behind, but in the Ensuite it will still leave a gap under the cabinet between the kickboard and the bath. In the powder room, they took the kickboard right to the edge of the cabinet (where it goes against the wall) and only undercut it on the "open" side. In the main bathroom it is open on both sides, so it is undercut on both sides, but in the Ensuite, it butts up against the bath on one side, but it has still been undercut - leaving behind a cleaning nightmare Seksui KDR in Sydney (2015-2016) Links --> | H1 thread | Final plans | Timing of works updated 9/3/16 | Re: KDR with Sekisui - Sydney 569Aug 08, 2015 8:55 am clintdb The finished product (minus bench tops of course....). I like dark colour so we have chosen a colour called laminex 'burnished wood'. I like dark colour so we have chosen a colour called laminex 'burnished wood'. Thanks clintdb. It seems we have a similar taste on colour. I've looked at the brochure and it seems the shade of espresso ligna and burnished wood are so close, the latter slightly darker. While we have chosen sarsen grey for the overheads. The combo of both colours looks fab. KDR with Sekisui - Sydney 572Aug 10, 2015 7:34 am What an amazing kitchen!!!! Oh I'm jealous and like a comment above I might have sleepless nights hehe ohh how terrific for you It's all looking great! (Is that what you wanted to do?) We were discussing that we'd like to extend our island bench, make the gaps between it and the wall either side a bit smaller. I wonder if we could go through the kitchen mop directly without telling Sekisui head office.... Hmm. This means that there are no tiles under or behind the bathroom cabinet. This is something that we were not aware of - it is certainly not evident in the documentation. Also, when we did the selections and upgrades at the tile appointment with Don's Tiles, all of the upgrades were calculated using an area that included the space under and behind the cabinets (they were very picky about calculating areas around the bath etc, so it wasn't just an oversight or a "general calculation"). In fairness to Don's, as they are a new contractor for Sekisui, I don't think they realised at the time that this was the way Sekisui does it - I'm sure they would have thought that the tiles get laid and then the cabinets go in. Whilst it could be said that it doesn't matter if there are tiles behind the cabinets or not (after all, the cabinet covers the un-tiled space), on a practical level, if there is ever any issue with the cabinet and it needs to be removed (either due to water damage or just aesthetic reasons) then you are going to have problems. At best you will have to try to tile in to a false edge, at worst any water damage to the cabinet might actually push against the edge of the tiling causing the bed to crack etc (which then leads to re-waterproofing, re-screeding, re-tiling etc). We didn't realise this was the process until the cabinets had been screwed in place (when the cabinets were first delivered we just assumed they would be moved out of the way for the tiling). After much discussion with our SS (have I mentioned before how great he has been on this job?) he has taken the cabinets out for us so that the tiles can be installed all the way through. In one respect, it was really lucky that this was done - he found that the cabinet in the main bathroom had been screwed into a cold water pipe behind the wall! It's only a small nick (see right hand side in the middle of the photo below) but it still drips slowly into the wall cavity. Had the cabinet not been removed this would not have been noticed for some time until the damage had well and truly been done! Like you, we have assumed that those areas are tiled. I'll pop the question to Sekisui. Re: KDR with Sekisui - Sydney 579Aug 18, 2015 9:22 pm OMG, screw in water pipe? That is not good if one discovers after months or years of constructing and handover. I realise that in the house we knocked down there were no tiles below or behind the vanity. That was a house built in 83. Not sure if we will get it in the back or below the cabinet.
