Happy with budget? 30May 29, 2014 6:01 pm Your hubby has a great wage, you're very lucky! We dont make that between the two of us, and I'm about to go on unpaid maternity leave for six months. The Burbanks Ascent 2500 looks great, it has everything you need. What is your current home like? I know sometimes I get a bit sooky thinking 'oh I wish we'd had money to add on this/include that/upgrade this' but then I think - seriously, I could fit THREE of this house into our new one, so suck it up lol! I'd talk to Henley again...I'm SURE they're giving my siblings fixed site costs and they have quite a bit of fall to their land. Their homes are brilliant too. Oh and I agree with what vetty19 says - dont forget the extras. We're about to get the keys to our house and still have to pay for fencing ($3000), concreting the driveway ($4000), curtains ($6000), connecting TV antenna ($400), installing some electrical stuff ($200), as well as letterbox, clothesline, laying grass, etc - it adds up VERY quickly. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: Not happy with house plan? Happy with budget? 31May 29, 2014 6:38 pm Vetty19 that's really smart. I agree, if you can get the flow/layout/plan right then that's most important, everything else can be slowly worked on. Hence why I'm not exactly sure on the Ascent. Burbank BY FAR has shown us the best customer service, prompt action to date & cost effectiveness, but just "like" the plan. MrsT12, thank you, we sound like we're in similar boats with the house wants. Yes we're blessed with his wage. And We too are currently renting a 2bdrm townhouse, so of course anything is going to be a major plus, but we surprisingly we measured the family/living against our current and the townhouse is a tad bigger - go figure. Lol My gfriend is also building with Henley, LOVE their designs. Might be worth me booking another appointment. And yes MrsT12 absolutely there's the finishes, hence why we're moving into parents to save while we build to pay for the finishers. Argh. Re: Not happy with house plan? Happy with budget? 33May 29, 2014 9:08 pm Don't forget, if everyone has their own space (for instance more bedrooms and more storage) the size of living areas is less important. While the actual living space might be more in your townhouse, you may have to squeeze more into it or spend more time in it because of the smaller personal areas. I think people get very over the top with the size of houses in Australia. Go almost anywhere overseas and they would think the normal Aussie house is a mansion. Our design is quite small by most people's standards but all I would really change is maybe add a separate extra living area. Maybe look at the size of the bedrooms in your burbank plan and see if you can steal space for another living area or study. I find most bedrooms on volume plans to be quite large when I know personally we spend almost no time in them but to sleep and get dressed. Not everyone's cup of tea but if the living areas are important to you then maybe that's a way to get some extra value. Happy with budget? 34May 29, 2014 9:23 pm Absolutely Imilie32. We don't mind about the size of rooms as your right we just sleep and get changed in them, but rather prefer larger living areas. We have asked Burbank if we can increase the family/living areas. He's telling us we need to put a deposit down by tomorrow before house prices increase :/ Re: Not happy with house plan? Firstly they get you to fill in some forms to register you into their system .. Then we paid $1000 initial deposit .. I think you should check out the low budget ( resi home) division first then make decision .. As you might find something in your budget or can make small modification to suit you .. Will get the details for you Tommorrow morning Re: Not happy with house plan? Happy with budget? 38May 29, 2014 10:24 pm Don't let them push you into signing until you are ready, they always use that line. Also once you've got your plan perfect and priced up push them for a discount. We got $3000 off the price plus a bonus of $1500 to spend at prestart. Don't be afraid to push for what you want and haggle the prices of everything. My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: Not happy with house plan? I'm sure the hubby would be more then enthusedddd. Lol You realize you'll be living at your parents for about 12 months anyway, right? What's another 6 months if it means you get a house you're happy with? Good luck with your build. Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh? Renovations on a budget can be quite the journey. It's like giving your house a new lease on life.
