Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 81Jul 08, 2015 8:03 pm Yeah I will never build through them again. I don't even know how far behind we are. We have had problems from the start. First they added things to our tender that we didn't ask for and at the same time realised all our colours and everything else had already been chosen! We originally told Jason at Mulgoa Rise we were looking at buying off the plan so we could still rent and wouldn't have to pay a mortgage until we moved in but his sales pitch was that with buying off the plan they come as is and you don't get to chose anything. He then sold us this house and we still didn't get to choose anything! When we had to start construction they wouldn't accept the letter from the bank, saying it was not an authority to start construction, I work for a bank and do a lot of progress payments and know what the letter is. Had to argue my point with them for weeks about it until they accepted it. We then needed a signed copy of the contract for the FHOG as we had already packed everything in storage when moving out and they couldn't even provide it. I had to send them a blank copy for them to sign and then they put the wrong contract date and delayed it for another 2 weeks. We have Tanni as our CS rep too and she is rude and has no idea what she is doing. I thought the build would be a smoother process and that would be where they shine but this part is even worse. The SS can't even tell us when they expect to finish as they are that far behind. Soooo Frustrating! We chose to get married on the 01/08 and come back from our honeymoon and move in but looks like back to the parents as a married couple lol Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 83Jul 08, 2015 8:42 pm Susieq where are you building? We face a similar issue. Our handover date was supposed to be 29th oct, we get married 7th November and intended to have family watch our kids in the house while honeymooning a week later but that's not looking likely! Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 84Jul 08, 2015 8:46 pm I'm in Jordan Springs, where abouts are you? Ahh mrpatto - someone who feels my pain! We have two kids and have lived with my inlaws since last October so a 5 week delay is an absolute nightmare!!
Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 85Jul 08, 2015 9:17 pm Yeah we have a 4 year old too! What would make you do it for a second time, one time is enough for me haha. We are building at Mulgoa Rise. Our house is further behind then both of yours by the sounds of it as they haven't completed the brickwork let alone start any of the other trades and yours is 6 weeks behind. Ours started construction on the 05/02/15 and have a 28 week contract. Hopefully not waiting until October/November. Had a few delays with the site being broken in to and stuff stolen so they had to order in the replacements. Think I might call them tomorrow to see if I can get some sort of indication as to when they expect it to be finished. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 86Jul 08, 2015 9:24 pm Oh wow, that's pretty bad susieq!! Our construction start date was the 5th March. Our build being a double is 34 weeks. We had a 2 week set back when the wrong frame was delivered then it took 15 days to get brickies on site, they worked for 3 days and got most of the ground floor done, 9 days to get scaffolding and then another 3 weeks for the brickies to come back out (one week it rained the whole time) they did 2 days worth and still haven't been back. I'm just thankful that our SS has started other trades while he sorts them out. The good part to that is they can't request any further progress payments until that stage is complete lol Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 87Jul 08, 2015 9:37 pm We have been at brick stage for 12 weeks now with the same thing. They don't show up. Who knows how much longer until they are finished. Hopefully you don't have the same experience. We paid for the bricks before they were completed so only two more progress payments to go before it is complete. Unfortunately we are already paying for most of the mortgage. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 88Jul 08, 2015 10:50 pm That's a bugger!! I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same brickies. I took a drive to Mulgoa Rise the other day and the amount of Eldertons astonished me. Now that they have displays in Jordan Springs they will be even busier and I don't see them coping unless they expand the trades. I just hope they don't become another inspiration homes ... Yes I won't be paying for anything else until the bricks are finished. There's about 30 bricks to go lol Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 89Jul 09, 2015 11:59 am Haha is your next payment for the completion of bricks or for internal fittings? Our contract says on completion of bricks and I have realised we paid for the bricks before they were completed. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 91Jul 09, 2015 2:58 pm Hey guys, our bank didn't accept elderton's payment schedule. Our contract indicated; Deposit - 5% Slab - 20% Frame/roof - 25% Bricks - 20% Internal linings - 20% Completion - balance Our bank said that the frame should be 20% only. Did this happen to you? Btw, it looks like that we will have a rough and bumpy ride with elderton in the following months. *sigh* Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 93Jul 09, 2015 11:03 pm Not sure why they wouldnt accept that, they usually follow the tender. I am a mortgage lender and I do a lot of construction loans and haven't heard of it before. Maybe go to a different bank. I called them today, apparently our site supervisor is changing. The person they are putting in is the regional manager so hopefully they move a bit quicker now! They said bricks will be finished by next Wednesday. Fingers Crossed, I don't have much faith in what they say though. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 95Jul 20, 2015 4:15 pm Wow.. Been awhile since I last visit here. to nav12c: The meridian is great. Though, there were a few things that, if we can redo again, we would. - consider the parents retreat (an add balcony if you can), I (the missus, not so much) kinda wish we had one. - There is one window (depend on your facade) that is high up on the second level, if you don't go for the parents retreat, consider asking them to put blinds there. The sun shines to brightly to our place during the day and it's now too high up to get blinds in (well, you can, but it'll be costly). Also, I have to say... My experiences with Elderton? After handover, things just got worse. I don't know if I can disclose too much of what's going on, as I'm in discussion with them around it. But suffice to say, there has been way too many mistakes and errors and whatnot and it's beyond frustrating now. I have had to play the role of supervisor and resolve most of the areas myself, and communication has practically stops from them. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 97Jul 22, 2015 7:19 pm Mine has been hell lately everything started like tile and carpenters but no one wants to finish anything. So painful lately. Don't know how long I can be patient for. Thanks, Matt Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 99Aug 09, 2015 7:28 am We had our tender appointment last week. So far all good. Pricing looks fair comparing to most of other builders in this range. But the process is bit lengthier and slower than others.. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 100Aug 09, 2015 9:30 am Dami_nic01 if we had our time again I would be going somewhere else. Not only slow but the work from tradies has be terrible. I'm realistic and don't expect perfection however some of the stuff I am seeing is really bad!
