The pile of discarded & broken bricks is also very impressive. I live in hope that next week they'll be done. With us, they were on fire for the first week where they almost finished the entire first floor. About a month later a teeny bit of the 2nd floor done. The 2nd floor is a big delay due to scaffolding set up by M : 2+ weeks just for that. Windows and other structures also take time. Brickies doing a good quality job though so not minding too much. Gave up many many months ago of getting the house this year so trying not to get stressed by the constant delays. M must have a corporate Zen philosophy - very relaxed! Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 12405Oct 18, 2016 12:30 pm It's been great reading everyone's progress...we are nearly done with our demolition however...the demo company had encountered asbestos laid into the concrete slab of our old sunroom and pergola. What the hell. It's now going to cost us more but they won't tell us how much more. Plus there is the chance the soil could be contaminated apparently. F'ing nightmare. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 12406Oct 18, 2016 3:18 pm jol0 the demo company had encountered asbestos laid into the concrete slab of our old sunroom and pergola. Unfortunately that's a fairly common problem with older houses. I've found lots of small bits of asbestos doing gardening. They just scattered that crap about with gay abandon back in the day. My demo clearance certificate was issued once the demo company had returned to remove 'surface visible asbestos chips'. I guess if you can't see it then it doesn't exist! Our bricklaying started on 13th of August. 9 weeks!!!!, not finished yet, Build becomes a joke. So frustating to hear about their shortage of tradie. We are really concern about our floor as we are buiding double storey. does anyone have any experience about first floor damage due to 4 months exposure of sun and rain (as there is no roof yet ). We will do our flooring after handover. Any advice or suggestion greatly appreciated. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 12412Oct 18, 2016 9:45 pm GillyM and NJC both your bricks look nice. Do you mind telling me the colour name and whether they were standard? We just visited austral bricks and pgh, out of the standard range we are probably going to go with 'slate'. Ours are called "cement" from pgh (although it has now changed its name to "stone"), and yes, it's from the standard range. The particle board used for the floors has a wax mixed in to it so it will survive the elements for quite a while. The chippies will come back to sand down the joins in the boards at some point. Ours have been exposed to the elements for 4 months and haven't taken any damage so far. It was a tad wonky around the joins and squeaky in a particular place due to the particle board being screwed to the joist, or not enough screws?? We're not sure why but it still squeaks!! We had our upstairs floors done in spotted gum timber by a non-M company. M did the sanding but the timber guys said the floor wasn't straight and charged us lots to make it straighter. In some areas you can really see the gap between the skirting boards and the floor which I've complained about to M during 90 day warranty inspection. They should take some responsibility. I think Bleaky had similar issues with the floor not being straight but because he went through M's nominated timber floor company M had to fix it to the standards the other company dictated. Good luck! Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 12417Oct 19, 2016 1:39 pm 5th day on the job for our tilers. Most of the tiles have been used from the garage so they must be almost done. They better do a few inches of the sides of the outside tiles, I don't want exposed slab. I seen the stone and sinks finally going in yesterday! SS told Hubby last week "don't ring me next week, I will ring you at the end of the week for an update and to arrange an inspection" If I don't hear from him by Monday he will be getting a not so pleasant phone call from me.
