Meanwhile just visited the house and realised the air con return vent has been put in totally the wrong place! We added two sliding doors to try and create an enclosed main living area for the ducted air conditioning to be more efficient hopefully, and the return being in the hallway kind of defeats the whole idea. Not to mention being hideously visible. Why do these things only happen outside business hours so you're left worrying the whole night?! My logical part of the brain is telling me the location of the return vent was specified in the contract so they will HAVE to relocate it. But I still can't stop fretting. Sigh. Anyway here are some pics. Amazing progress even from this morning! Enormous amounts of plasterboard delivered (there are two piles!). We just had a brief shower, hopefully it wasn't damaged. I'm surprised they do plasterboard before the outside is bricked up, surely it's not weatherproof? Weird. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front entrance side lights on. I was worried the translucent glazing would look cheap but it looks really good. It certainly gets late afternoon sun unfortunately even with the deep porch. Only for half an hour or so I think. Again, blame Samsung for their loud shutter sound! Grrrr. Meanwhile, am losing more sleep using Google Sketchup. As things are getting tight financially I won't be able to get the little mudroom area custom fitted out, so I've been looking into Ikea solutions. This kind of works I think although I get stuck with a dead corner. Perhaps I can put a basket or hamper or something there. The cabinet on the left is the actual Ikea shoe cabinet, but the overhead hat rack and bench to sit on aren't the exact Ikea ones. I just found similar sort of stuff and adjusted the dimensions to fit the Ikea dimensions. In reality, everything would match a bit better. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - more Google Sketchup. 312Mar 24, 2014 6:40 pm I've had a PM asking for more pictures of our Basalt colorbond roof as it's a new colour. I thought I'd post some here in case that would help anybody else. We took a bit of a gamble on choosing Basalt as we only had a small sample swatch of it and there weren't any examples I could find. We're really happy with it. The other possibility was "Woodland Grey" but I just wasn't happy about the amount of browny-green it threw, we were after something a bit more modern and with double strength evening haze as our render (and evening haze as our fascia) which has a khaki/green sort of tinge, I wanted something quite neutral. I've also seen "Wallaby" another new grey-brown colour and it has a beautiful soft warmth to it. I was worried that the Basalt might be too boring/one tone as it doesn't have the other tones of the other colours, but it's lovely and strong, a nice deep grey. And the colorbond has such natural sheen to it it certainly doesn't look dull. In fact it's been really hard to get a decent photo of the colour as they've all turned out like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2014-03-20 08.50.19 by Em_Brisbane, on Flickr Luckily it was overcast today so I've managed to get some more accurate photos that aren't so glarey/shiny. And the external wall insulation (which I think must have been done on a Saturday, impressive). I presume those things stuck on the ceiling are temporary supports or something. It's so hard to visualise. The middle part is turning out better than I expected, it should just be a gentle slope from the alfresco. But there is a bit more of a drop off in the far left corner of the backyard. Maybe we'll do a terraced retaining wall later on when we've got a bit more money for that area. Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - Basalt roof and ceilings in 317Mar 24, 2014 8:06 pm Nice roof. We would've chosen Basalt too if not for the estate's Grey Ridge fencing, sigh. Have you considered Solver Charcoal? We're having it as a feature render and somehow it's close to Basalt. Now you made us think twice with our choice. Re: Our rocky "Forever Home" - Basalt roof and ceilings in 319Mar 24, 2014 9:00 pm Here is our mudroom/laundry. The rack and bench seat is from ikea, the cushions from clark rubber. The laundry is between the garage and the rest of the house so it works well.
