Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 901Mar 27, 2014 5:14 pm I just went and had a looksie at our house and it feels like not much has changed since the weekend even though I know things are being done. All the door frames, doors and architraves are in and the waterproofing has been done in the showers and bath... But the best part about our visit today was meeting our new neighbor!! She was there looking at their block which has just been scraped and she came to introduce herself! And she said she's happy to pay for fencing whenever we want! Seems like we are going to get along really well! I'm so relieved! Now just 2 on the side to go and one over the back :/ Building Abode 22 Cranbourne West Contract Signing 30/10/13 Land titled 31/10/13 Settlement on land due 20/11/13 Formal Approval 14/11/13 Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 902Mar 27, 2014 9:15 pm Hi Everyone, just an update. WEEK 20. Painting done last week- what a relief color choices so far alright. Im still worried with color choices. Tiling started today. Looking from outside only(its all locked now), all tiles has been laid in laundry, bathroom and master ensuite. From Monday to Wednesday nothing has been done just waiting for the tiles/materials to arrive as we were told. It was quick with new SS then suddenly its slowing again! Next week to start rendering. HOPEFULLY if they are not waiting for materials again. I dont know where they are getting their order as they are always taking a long time to arrive. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 903Mar 27, 2014 9:54 pm Ebony that sucks to hear about your delays! Must be frustrating to read everyone here having such a fast build. Fingers crossed materials aren't delayed! Still haven't spoken to our SS. Had to email our client liaison with questions. My husband thinks we should just call him, but I feel that he should be calling us. On some news, our roof tiles are starting this week. Hopefully by the time we get to the brick stage, it stops raining! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 904Mar 28, 2014 4:24 am Oh Ebony - 20 weeks for a single storey and they're still waiting for tiles? I'd be so impatient! How annoying to be that close to your build. It will be here before you know it though. Ruby123 I'm assuming the delayed because of the rain? My place is going well. Blog: http://dandesbuild.blogspot.com.au Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 911Mar 29, 2014 5:23 pm I finally spoke to our SS, nice guy! Told me to call him anytime, don't bother going through the office. So thats good to hear. He told me, that they will start on bricks next week, weather permitting. But he wants to start on the plaster at the same time. Called it reverse building? Or something to that extent. Did anyone else have this happen? Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 912Mar 29, 2014 5:45 pm Hi Niccles, glad you spoke to the SS. It's so much better getting the updates directly. The office will still email you updates but their info is likely to be old...eg. Your bricks are scheduled to finish at the end of the week...but the SS tells you it's already done. Haha! My bricks started and then about a week later the plaster started at the same time so both works were then getting done together. You see huge changes when this happens! I'd drive past, see progress and get an email 2 days later. Hehe. Thanks for that, Pooks. I wouldn't have guessed it, but when he called it reverse building it made me go, okay? I had a look through your blog and it's all looking fantastic! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 914Mar 29, 2014 7:00 pm I hadn't actually heard that term of reverse building before! Sounds like your SS is keen to get the job done which is great! Thanks for reading my blog! I understand it must be frustrating. Is this why you have put in a complaint or have other things within your build gone wrong?" Hi Pooks, there is no major problem that we are aware of. But prior to construction we know that the location has big rocks and also elevated. Its a beautiful location near the lake so we said yes. Even them they know about it as they are the one who recommended the lot after we failed the valuation on the previous lot from different estate. We are charge $20,000 for the site cost which we understand why. Earhtworks started 17/10/13 Slab Works paid 28/11/13 Frame paid 19/12/14 Lock Up paid 20/2/14 January after the holidays Brickworks started which take so long. Waiting for the bricks, not enough bricks, some suppliers are still on holiday, electrician didnt turn up, all the excuses. Then we have a new SS. We are positive again things will be quick. For two weeks nothing has been done on the site. We thought maybe changeover. With the new SS it was quick at first things are moving then slowing down again. On our counting which is 20 weeks on the build we have removed all the holidays/PH and give them extra week. They keep mentioning the rock removal and retaining wall for taking the time. But if you had a look on the progress it didnt really take long from earthworks to slab. So last week Monday to Wednesday just waiting for the supplies again so tiling can be started. We are so frustrated Its 20 weeks now. So, we have to escalate the problem to the regional manager. In this way maybe things will be quicker. In the copy they give to us A Guide To Building Your New Home. It was stated that Single story 20 wks and 28 wks for double story. The sales rep even brag the average building was 16wks. Prior to construction are the major problem where we had. We received the copy of the council approved plans and we found out in the drawings the facade is not the one we choose. We paid $4700 for upgraded facade and did not got what we want. But for the reason it is approved by the council, if we want to change it we have to reapply again. On the PWC, I pointed out to them that the facade is wrong. I have given them my own copy that they sent to us. But still it is all wrong. We have to accept to continue as we dont want to reapply and wait again. For the reason we are now paying for the land. Longer time, more cost. As a compensation we got the double glazing window except the 3BR and other varriance on the way that we are ask us to pay but not much. Everytime we go there you see the wrong Facade but we have to convince ourselves the double glazing are practical. Still trying to be positive. For now we are still waiting for the facade to be rendered. Sorry, its quite long but I thought I have to explain it so you know where we stand and not just ranting for nothing. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 916Mar 30, 2014 7:39 am What a shame you're having such a hard time, Ebony. In the end, you'll be able to look past everything EXCEPT money. In my opinion, if you feel you haven't been fully refunded the $4700 you paid for your facade, you'll always feel ripped off. I'm not sure why you're being partially refunded in other features instead of that money being credited on your final stage. Hmmm ... I'm sure you'll do your best to get that taken care of. It won't be long before you're waking up in that master bedroom! Just keep thinking of that to keep you going. 19.03.14 - Land Settlement 15.04.14 - Building Permit 28.04.14 - Earthworks 14.05.14 - Slab Stage 20.05.14 - Frame Stage 11.06.14 - Lock Up Stage 03.07.14 - Fix Stage 15.08.14 - New Home Presentation Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 917Mar 30, 2014 2:25 pm Thanks for sharing your experience Ebony. The wrong facade is a fairly big mistake. Hopefully you like what you know have! Fingers and toes crossed you'll be in before you know it Drove past today, our roof tiles are on! Our SS said by Monday it'll be on, so I'm thinking they are doing works on saturday. Pretty excited to see how much has been done this week. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 920Mar 31, 2014 5:11 pm Excellent! You should get a letter with a site start date followed by a phone call from your site supervisor who should be able to tell you the plan up until slab stage. You should get weekly emails from the office construction liaison and fortnightly calls from the site supervisor telling you what's happening.
