Well don't I feel silly! Kevin has had a look at the pics, he has said the same thing as you piranha. "These chips are quite normal and have most likely always been there, but just never noticed." "They are caused by the framing carpenters fixing temporary blocks to the top of the slab when erecting the walls so that they can brace the centre of the walls to them to keep the top plates straight. Most slabs have these in them and they are repaired (filled) by the builder prior to completion." I am so glad that I have Kevin on my side, definitely worth every penny. I appologise if i offended anyone with my presumption over the tradies, i will certainly try asking questions instead of making judgements in the future. I guess it is easy to be passionate about something you care about so much. Thank you to those of you who said to remain calm, if i had gone in guns blazing i would have looked like even more of an idiot. Regards, Ratter Re: Just when things seem to be going well...... this!!!! 18Apr 21, 2008 8:31 am Excellent new ratter! mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Just when things seem to be going well...... this!!!! 19Apr 21, 2008 10:49 pm he he,, kudos to me for an accurate yet uneducated guess based on my observations walking through a half built display home. I guess there is hope for me yet as a soon to be owner builder.
Glad to hear the tradies hadnt taken revenge on your slab after all ratter Re: Just when things seem to be going well...... this!!!! 20Apr 22, 2008 7:47 am We have some marks on our slab similar to those shown, which will be fixed before handover.
In our case they were caused by nailing the temporary supporting timber to the frame as it was constructed. Imagine a peice of timber with one end on the slab, and one end on the top of a wall - then put a nail in at each end to hold it there. If you go back through our blog and look at the frame pictures you will see what I mean. The marks in the concrete are left by the removal of the nail. Ugly? Yep. Happy? No. Will it be fixed? You bet! We didn't suffer the same cracks that I see in your picture. Cheers They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5791 It's possible but a soak well is usually much larger. Your 'soak well' only holds 424 litres when full. What is your soil type? Soak wells need sandy soils. 10 8947 Finally got the Soakwell at my house sucked out. Now I’m looking for ideas on how to hide it as it’s a bit of an eye sore. I’m thinking I’d like to turf over the… 0 3241 |
