Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: 1s time painters.. help! 10Feb 21, 2013 7:45 pm Agree with using good brushes and paint - avoid the 'trade' brands. and the wrapping your brushes and rollers at lunchtime/evening is a great time saver. Just remember to change the gladwrap if it dries out as the dried paint will stick to your rollers if you use the wrap again leaving gunk and lumps on your walls. prep, prep, prep - cant state that more. Clean the walls, soap em, putty up the dints and gaps, sand it well and clean the walls again. If you can see the defect in the wall before you put the paint on it, the paint will NOT hide it. Selleys no more gaps is great for closing up those gaps between the archs/skirts and the plaster. Never cut in more than you can roll before the cut in section starts to dry otherwise you will end up with a picture framing effect. Having one person cut in while the other rolls is a great way to do it. Roof then walls then skirts. If you have carpet and don't what to pull it up to paint the skirts, grab some brown packing tape and run around the edge of the carpet overhanging up the skirts by 5-10mm. Then using a scraper push the overhang down into the edge between the carpet and skirts. Make sure you don't leave the packing tape down more than 48 hours as it will stick too much to your carpet and try not to get too much paint on the tape when your doing the skirts as the paint can leave lumps as it fills the gap between the tape and the skirt or pull off when you lift the tape. Painting when its 30+ degrees makes for a hard day at the office as it dries on the walls too quick, dries on your brushes and roller handles...just yuk. means you have to clean them every day if not twice a day. If your walls have not been painted in a long time, then they will absorb the first coat very very quickly. Consider a cheaper white undercoat as your first layer before putting on at least 2 topcoats. I detest cutting in but AC/DC at volume makes it bearable...sorry neighbours but find rolling very therapeutic....go figure Good Luck RiH Re: 1s time painters.. help! 12Feb 21, 2013 8:34 pm erinjade the walls are an off white and I'm painting them a light beige kinda colour? need to warm it up a bit. is that darker or lighter? Don't worry about an undercoat, just go 2 top coats. Re: 1s time painters.. help! 13Feb 21, 2013 11:01 pm erinjade @mynameisjonas thank you thank you thank you? couldn't have asked for a better reply! our only drama is we have a 1 year old who we obviously don't want touching the walls which is why we thought room by room but she can stay overnight somewhere! ps awesome name, hope you caught weezer when they were out! @littewing beer and SKRILLEX should do the job! haha Lots of fantastic advice! I will have to subscribe to this. Thread for future reference great guys! I have the most amazing image of a painter with a beer in one hand a roller in the other dancing with strobe lights on lol...! HD Re: 1s time painters.. help! 14Feb 22, 2013 5:53 am This will probably sound like a stupid question. But, with a newly built home should you clean the walls before painting? I'd assume theres going to be a fine dust over it. And if yes, what with? House is still only at council so at this point me and the boyfriend have decided on painting ourselves.... Could regret this lol! Re: 1s time painters.. help! 16Feb 22, 2013 10:10 am for cutting in , just use brushes, get purdy 3 set from masters... great value... awesome quality brushes that will last forever.. just remember to wash them out every now and then.... Yes clean the walls, sugar soap, damp cloth, and let it all dry.... painting you can easily save $4000 so do it yourselves, it will look fine! Sugar soap is the best... and cheap. ErinJade, defintely caught Weezer. went to both shows!!! front row! amazing times. Re: 1s time painters.. help! 17Feb 22, 2013 10:25 am Tips from my experience 1. Clean it first 2. Patch if there is something to patch .. 3. Buy the right brush .. big rollers .. brush with an angle for the edges .. i'd say ask the store that you are going to paint xx meters by xx meters so that they can recommend a right amount of paint 4. buy mask ... 5. Do the edges first .. or do the hard part first 6. its much better if you can paint it in one go but definitely depends on you ( i did one face of a wall at a time ) 7. Take your time painting i forgot the tapes if you need to paint on a straight line Re: 1s time painters.. help! 19Mar 30, 2013 11:54 pm Following this thread for interest too. Anyone given up the rollers & brushes & used a PAINT ZOOM sprayer? ($80 from Big W)....Im planing to use this & from what Ive read it looks much easier...of course its all in the prep - I'll be using a tinted primer.... Building with 101 Residential in Falcon. Re: 1s time painters.. help! 20Mar 31, 2013 6:52 pm From my experience sprays are never as good (coverage) as a roller and brush. The sprays are used in new home builds (volume building) because it's so much faster, but it doesn't do as good a job. Painting is never a quick job, it just takes time to do it properly. 9 24795 1 13125 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 8939 |
