Do you know the measurement of your roof cavity? Don't know the size but from talking to our sales guy the impact of a flat roof I that some ducting goes through cupboards Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 10Oct 12, 2012 9:26 pm my advise. talk to coldflow. they are great. see what they say. Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 11Oct 12, 2012 9:50 pm Thanks again Free Will. Leighton, thanks so much. I will definitely speak to ColdFlow and see what their methods are if any. Looks like i'll need to research and educate our builders myself. Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 12Nov 24, 2012 9:15 pm Sounds strange - I would have thought there are a few different ways to get heating and cooling in. For the ground floor you could run ducting behind cupboards and bulkheads, or straight through the ceiling cavity if the space is available. Same with the top floor. Maybe the builder gets a really good deal on split systems and railroads people into having splits everywhere? Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 13Nov 24, 2012 9:44 pm They have ended up being able to do it after all with a slimline unit and we have to fork out a few thousand more for it. At least it can be done. What a headache! At least it can be done. What a headache! I would love to know what specific system that was and the contractor that did that if you know the details. We have the same issue with our build and at the moment the aircon guy we had to quote said it wasn't possible due to limited cavity space in roof for the actual unit and instead our only option is a gas piped system...that is costing approx $22K that I prefer not to have to spend... Any info re a more suitable and cost effective option would be great!!! Thanks on a steep learning curve...YIKES!!! Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 15May 29, 2013 1:57 pm With the increase in flat roof designs, this is something very familiar to us. Unfortunately the lack of cavity and in many cases the location of beams, limits where the indoor units and duct work can go. One only needs to see a roof installation to appreciate how much equipment needs to be installed. It will come down to individual house and air conditioning / heater designs to determine what is exactly possible or not. System efficiency, effectiveness and reliability can be greatly impacted if the systems design is compromised to have a 'forced fit'. Although piped multi indoor systems can be much more expensive, they will offer the desired outcome on effectiveness and efficiency if the ducted systems design would have been compromised. Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 16Jun 14, 2013 6:17 am Thanks for your response and information...reluctantly we have no other choice for a seamless whole house solution. We have had one quote however not sure you else to approach for the piped aircon option. My husband is keen to go ahead however I think for the price difference, we may be able to get by with a couple split system units for upstairs and downstairs. If you can recommend any reasonable priced businesses in Sydney area for a quotation, that would be helpful. Thanks on a steep learning curve...YIKES!!! Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 17Jun 14, 2013 7:20 am Hi How did you go with ducted aircon? Did you have split in each room upstair and downstair? We having same problem and hard to decide what would be cheaper and reliable? Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 18Jun 14, 2013 8:05 am we are looking at piped gas... not sure the right name/system type. . it is quite expensive however my husband doesn't want ac units visible if we went with a split system system on a steep learning curve...YIKES!!! Re: Flat Roof - Builder says we can't have ducted heating/co 19Jun 14, 2013 10:57 am If you have a "Multi-Head Split" system, you only need have one outside unit, or if it's the inside he's worried about, with a multi-head split you hardly have yo see the internal units either if you don't want. While they "normally" use wall-mounted units in each room, these units can also have "hidden" room units such as cassettes or bulkhead units. P_D .
