Re: Wierd, wierd noise in (I think) gas pipes 16Sep 11, 2012 6:14 am ed @ ecoclassic I wonder if the wind is coming under the brick sill at the windows and perhaps the flashing (black membrane stuff) is not secured enough, causing it to flap around. Ed A simple question, I have a fair bit of this going on at my place, I am going to use some silicone around the window flashing, is that what the builder is suppose to do? Ed A simple question, I have a fair bit of this going on at my place, I am going to use some silicone around the window flashing, is that what the builder is suppose to do? There are 2 flashings on these windows, the black membrane and the rubber sill flap. The membrane is usually taped to the sarking, but in Lex's case, the pipe under the window would be in the way, so we don't know how that was finished off. The sill flap usually just rests on the brick sill, no silicone required, but no harm is using it if you want. I am suggesting that if the gap under the sill is stuffed (using something handy for now, like newspaper), to prevent the wind entering it might stop the noise, that should determine if the noise is caused by the membrane on the pipe. Then it can b fixed properly Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. I would think it's gas pipes because wouldn't water pipes be full of water?? And how come they are noisy when it's windy?? Although, I do think the water hammer might have somthing to do with the water heater which is right there, outside. So it might all be something to do with water heater ?! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
