Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 18, 2012 10:20 am We have a brick pier that is 1.4m high , its been rendered and just the other day was leaning on it and felt it move.. When applying more pressure it can be tilted!! The crack is about 2 courses up.... wasnt happy... It had been done around 3 months ago and only noticed now... Never really put any pressure on it before... What can be done to fix it, can the top portion be removed a whole, re mortared then put back on? Or would the pier need to be rebuilt again meaning i would have to get a renderer in to re render also... any advice. Re: brick pier crack and can be tilted !! 2Jun 18, 2012 10:35 am It sound to me like there is no reinforcement in the pier. You don't say what size it is but it should really be a minimum of a brick and a half in each direction with reinforcing steel running up the middle. IMO the only way to do a proper job is to build the whole thing again with the reinforcement. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: brick pier crack and can be tilted !! 3Jun 18, 2012 1:18 pm If there is cavity in the middle of the pier you can get long masonry drill 1.2M sold at Bunnings and drill into foundation. Then you can chem set reinforcing bar and fill cavity with concrete. That should do it. So i dont think that drill bit would be long enough to penetrate into the retaining wall for a reinforcement bar. The piers are not retaining anything, only some wood infill pannels for fencing will be put in between them. Re: brick pier crack and can be tilted !! 8Jun 18, 2012 4:32 pm The piers should really be 340mm x 340mm and have steel reinforcement going down into the retaining wall at least 200mmm. I should have followed up on this thread. So, the pier foundation wasn't large enough on the side it was leaning towards, and the NBN cable went through the pier, just… 8 10746 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 6196 |
