Re: 1st build in Baldivis with DAH - Building Permit issued 112Aug 28, 2012 9:27 am On the plus side it doesn't sound like major structural changes so hopefully DAH were right and the reconsideration won't take as long as full approval! Keep us posted! Building the Nautilus with Dale Alcock follow my thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58854&p=909574#p909574 14/8/12 Pre-start! Building in Baldivis with Dale Alcock 113Aug 29, 2012 1:37 am We received the updated elevation drawing today by email, and we hated it lol. The theatre room window was moved wayyyy off centre to the left hand side, and it just doesn't look right! It's so stupid that just by extending our porch by 75cms it becomes a 'verandah' and that would make it ok by the developer. >:( So, we have decided to go with the corbel/moulding on the front walls. We have asked for only 4 courses high so it won't be toooo much, like some houses you see it goes nearly half way up. Now have to wait another few days for that to be drawn up. And hopefully it's done and all amended for prestart on Wednesday next week. Also having another slight dilemma - we originally chose blackbutt flooring but we have sort of changed our minds to spotted gum. Really can't decide - we have been to 2 display homes, one with the blackbutt and one with the spotted gum and think we like spotted gum more as the blackbutt is very yellow/golden, whereas the spotted gum has some yellow but more browns as well. And more pattern/grain through it which looks amazing. Electrical plans are all done (DF spent hours on them) and will just need to be checked etc at prestart. Will basically just need to choose toilets, door handles, mixers etc etc Oh and internal paint colours - so far thinking smoke pearl for all living areas (realllyyyy don't know how people see pink in this???), carabou for theatre and floating wall in living area (thanks Emma) and WALLABY for bedrooms?? (light grey colour - thoughts please from those familiar with this colour). Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. I have had 4 patches of paint on my wall now of the current house to try to decide. Dulux Sago - very close to smoke pearl ever so slightly more yellow Solver Smoke pearl Solver pewter Solver tulip white Dulux is too yellow, pewter too pinky purple and tulip white too pale. Smoke pearl looks yellow based next to the pewter so that could be why I don't see pink. However of the 4 it seems the most not yellow but not pink if that helps? I am pretty much decided yes on it. I have it in the bathroom and living to compare in different lights as well. Hope this makes sense and helps! Building in Baldivis with Dale Alcock 115Aug 29, 2012 10:11 am Hey enelya, yep we have smoke pearl through our entire house that we live in at the moment and it's a really lovely colour, the swatches don't do it justice! We have tried looking all through the house, and even placing the swatches in different lighting etc and can't see any pink whatsoever, which is strange because when ally posted pics of a sample board with smoke pearl it definitely had pink through it! It looks really stunning at night with the downlights on, goes nice and warm. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Follow our progress here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=57075 Re: Building in Baldivis with Dale Alcock 116Aug 29, 2012 10:21 am We did see the pink in smoke pearl! We got the colour swatch and also the sample paint and put it up against our benchtop and it just wasn't right. I had loved th pink through it so really wanted it, but looked wrong with the grey tones in our benchtops We ended up going for Peace Lily which is a Wattyl Masters colour (but Bunnings can make it up in other paints as it is on their system...Solver can but they need to be able to ring through to get the formula) We put it in our bedrooms/study and we were going to put it in our living and i decided I wanted a little more oomph to it...got it in 150% and it is so beautiful!!! Absolutely love it! It was the wrong shade for our bathroom though as it had the faintest hint of pink? if you could call it pink...it still went with the kitchen benchtop but not our ensuite so we went with a mushroom colour for in there, which is on the same colour swatch as the peace lily. Choosing colours is sooo hard! We bought about 10 sample pots of different white/greys! And then to think of all the swatches we had! WOW! We have carabou for our feature render and it is a gorgeous colour! We considered it for our theatre and we ended up going for Dulux Peppercorn Rent. It is a really dark brown still, but not as bold...a little softer for the theatre. And went with our carpets better. Good hear to you have a solution for the "feature" the estate wants. Our "features" were so simple it was shameful. having a contrasted render colour was all that was needed. I prefer the higher standards!!! Re: Building in Baldivis with Dale Alcock 117Aug 29, 2012 10:37 am Hi MissEm, Hope the new plans come back and you like them more than the first set! They did get them turned round fairly quickly so good to see DAH are trying to resolve the issue before pre-start for you. With your flooring it might be worth trying to get some external quotes ahead of Wednesday. I think I remember you talking about the costs of the flooring at the beginning of your post and although i am not sure how many sqm they have quoted for we have had some great quotes back for Bamboo and will be doing all our living areas after handover. Well done on the electrical plans it's a great thing to have ready for the day so you cna focus on the more exciting choices! I'm loving the light grey walls idea - we are doing the same. They contrast really well with white ceilings and doors, and everything goes with it! (Pink for DD's room, silver / black for our room, white for the guest room!) I can't comment on Wallaby as I haven't seen it but whoever you have at pre-start will be able to advise The Vans We have carabou for our feature render and it is a gorgeous colour! That's great to hear Vans!! I think the thing to remember is that although you are choosing the colors now, we have plenty of time before they get ordered / started to change our minds so it doesn't have to be as stressful a choice as I think I made it ahead of pre-start. Re: Building in Baldivis with Dale Alcock 119Aug 29, 2012 11:34 am Hello MissEm. I've found your thread. And I've just spent some time reading through all of it - very detailed and thorough. Is everything OK at the moment? I know your Prestart session is fast approaching - I hope you are allowing yourself to feel some excitement about it! It sounds like you're very organised and prepared for your session - I'm sure you've read EmmaNewman's post about her Prestart? It's great. The colours you've chosen sound really lovely - have you made the final decision about the flooring yet? I have a tip for some of those bigger decisions - if you flip a coin you'll likely know what you want before it's landed. I use that when I can't quite decide but really I know my decision deep down. A bit silly but it may work for you! Best wishes for Prestart and remember to take some snaps and post them to our Facebook page. Jemima, I think you're right about the decision making. Deep down I know we both really love the spotted gum so I think that's the way we will go. On our first visit to a dales display we loved the flooring and were told it was blackbutt. That's why we decided blackbutt, but after visiting BJs timber flooring we were given a list of homes with the big river products in them, and it said the display in baldivis we had visited was spotted gum. So we went back there and got the guy to check the addenda and sure enough - its spotted gum. Looks divine!!!! Emma - we decided to use DA to do the timber as the list for post handover is large enough as it is (landscaping, lighting, pool etc etc), and with the credit for the free tiling it really works out quite reasonable anyway. I'm sure we could have got the credit and organized after handover and saved a couple of grand, but in this case we kinda don't mind paying a little more for convenience. Plus if it is layed *******, or stuffs up in any way, it can be DA issue to fix, instead of us chasing people. Think we have decided to get credit for carpet though as well. Didn't really like the carpets styles much and I don't think it would be a big hassle to organise after handover (providing it can be laid AFTER timber). Re the paint colours, I could look at 100 samples and love them all. I think it's SO easy to second guess yourself when it comes to paint colours because there's hundreds of colours that are soooo similar to look at. I'm going to post a pic of the wallaby swatch and see what you all think. It is VERY similar to colourbond dune colour, just a bit lighter. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes.
