Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 24, 2012 5:03 pm Hi i need some advice. Ive just had a quote for window coverings in store from my house plans .(It had the window measurements on it).. I ask the sales guy to come out and properly measure my windows as the window measurements may not be accurate. he said no theres no need as we can go by the plans .. that should be sufficent. This is a real concern for me. Later on while still in the store i over heard a sales lady tell a customer over the phone that they come out and give a free measure and quote. What do you guys think? is a instore quote from house plans enough? thanks claire Re: Window covering Quote 2May 24, 2012 6:03 pm We give in-store quotes off plans, after the customer is happy with the quote and would like to go ahead, we go and do an onsite measure. The reason you need an on-site measure is if the window frames are not even in measurement top and bottom, and this happens. This also depends on what type of window dressing you are thinking of having, and are they in the reveal or on the architrave. What were you thinking of having? I think i will talk to them again. If their not going to come in and do a proper measure then they wont get my business. Im thinking of having plantation shutters on my bedroom and ensuite windows lounge will be eyelet curtains with a view screen blind re inside the window frame family/ kitchen. will be holland and view screen inside the window frame rumpus eyelet and view screen/ smaller window roman blind other bedrooms holland blind as the windows are high bathroom/ toilet venetion blinds I will try and post the samples on line here you can give me an i dea on colors. That 14mm makes a huge difference when fitting your blinds recessed. And plantation shutters need to be to the mm. I would go with your instinct and find a supplier who makes you feel at ease. Re: Window covering Quote 6Jun 05, 2012 12:04 pm Thanks Michelle and Bogans Wife yes your both right, i havent done anything about the quote over the past few weeks as ive had other more pressing things to do, but now that i have some free time. its now back on my agenda. I will give these guys one more go. ask them to come out, if they dont then i will go elsewhere , otherwise whos going to take responsibilty if my blinds and curtains dont fit. Re: Window covering Quote 7Jun 05, 2012 12:46 pm Hi Clath, as others have said, it is essential to get them onsite for a detailed measure and quote for plantations. The company I used were fabulous. I took my plans to them with a rough suggestion of what I wanted, and they quoted from that (rang me that afternoon). Then they organised someone to come out and do a proper measure and to see exactly what colours, blade widths, the location of the cross bar, where I wanted the opening/closing bar and exactly what material (timber, PVC or HDF). Once I recieved that written quote and paid a deposit if I wanted to accept, then they sent out someone else to do what is called a check measure. He was here for ages (I had 17 windows to measure for plantations), and detailed exactly the width and drop of each window on both sides (nothing is completely plumb and exactly the same in a house!), and then we had to work out the depth of each solid top and bottom pieces of the shutters according to how many blades would fit in the space, which depended upon the width of the blades. To add a cross bar in the mix (making 2 separate shutters per drop of window) also added into it, and then to decide the height of the cross bar! I would not accept a quote from anyone for plantations if they don't come out onsite, especially when I have seen first hand just how intricate they can be. Despite all the careful measuring, there was one window (2 shutters) that didn't meet precisely in the middle, and it let a small sliver of light in toward the bottom of the shutters. They were replaced and are now perfect. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
